Making art is a really vulnerable activity. You are moved by something in life, you have an idea, you execute... and you wait. You don’t make art for other people, but there is always an underlying desire that others will love what you create. There’s something about this validation and shared emotion that makes you feel less alone. When someone buys a piece of mine, I know it has captured and touched on something in their story. That’s what art does for all of us! I have loved this Tillikum mixed media since I made it - I cried and cried when he died in captivity - and now this painting has a new home. (And yes, I talk about my art like it’s a living being. When you spend that much time and emotion bringing something into existence, it feels super real). I always say that each painting is waiting for the person who ends to buying it. And then I know that that person gets it! And they deserve to have this creation in their life.
