It would be a shame if the protesters noted that plainclothes cops can be identified a number of ways, such as wearing steel-toed boots; an armband or wristband of a particular color; driving white, black, or dark blue cars with concealed lights; or having the outline of cuffs visible in the back pocket or the bumps of an armor vest’s shoulder straps under their shirt.

It would be a shame if the protesters began making their signs out of inch-thick plywood to stop rubber bullets, forming a tight shield wall to prevent police from singling out and mobbing individual protesters. It would be a shame if the people behind the shield wall held up umbrellas so that tear gas canisters fired over the heads of the front line will be bounced away. It would be a shame if protesters began constructing improvised armor vests out of duct tape, hardback books, and ceramic tiles.

It would be a shame if protesters started wearing safety glasses, hard hats, respirators, and gardening gloves, all of which can be found at the same hardware stores as the plywood. It would be a shame if they started using traffic cones (the kind without the hole in the top) upside-down buckets, or other improvised lids to contain tear gas by placing them over the canisters.

It would be a shame if protesters learned that police scanners are legal to own in the US, allowing them to learn where police are moving and what routes they intend to take. It would be a shame if they discovered that these scanners can be used to send as well as receive, allowing them to flood the scanner frequencies with noise.

I need you all to prepare yourselves to vote for Biden in November.  

I’m not happy about it either.  I wanted Elizabeth Warren to destroy Trump on the debate floor.  I wanted to watch her shatter the glass ceiling.  I wanted student loan forgiveness, Medicare for All, and refugee and immigrant protections.

But I’m not going to get that.  So I am going all in for Biden.

This can no longer be a matter of “well if I don’t get my way THEN I’M NOT VOTING”.  I’d hoped you all learned your lessons four years ago, but from what I’ve seen on social media, that’s not been the case.  Biden is not ideal but he is better than the alternative.  He is a Democrat who will continue Obama’s legacy.  And you have a shot in hell of getting progressive movements like Medicare for All under a blue majority Congress; we do not have that under Trump.  

Biden is more willing to listen to the progressive factions of the Democrat party than Trump is.  We will get shit done under him.    

The reality is that we live in a two party system and while I do not want Biden, I am capable of recognizing nuance and shades of gray. If it comes down to Biden, as it very likely may he will not do as much damage as four more years of Trump, and that is an ethical imperative. 

We can do NOTHING as long as Mitch McConnell remains Senate Majority Leader. No bills will get passed. They won’t even get a debate. Nearly 500 House bills are sitting on McConnell’s desk right now, gathering dust.

We are FUCKED if Republicans get to nominate even one more Supreme Court justice.

Get your ass out there and hustle for Biden. Make sure everyone you know is registered and can get to the polls. Adopt a Senate race and get to work.

these are explanations at most generous, excuses in bald face.

don’t confuse them for apology. for amends. for repentance or changing of ways.

explanation, excuse, context. they frame a situation, but they don’t rewrite it.

forgiveness is your choice. yours only. you don’t owe it. it’s only healing or worth a damn at all if it’s what you choose, what you need. frankly, forgiveness isn’t even earned. it’s yours to give or not, based on whatever standard is right to you.

but if you’re looking to give forgiveness to the sorry, make sure they’re saying sorry, and not just explaining themselves. 

they’re not the same thing.

make sure they’re not trying to explain that, in fact, they didn’t abuse you at all, because of their perspective, because of context.
