Everything is so rushed. People in their twenties complaining about being old, sped up songs, sped up videos, too many things to do in such a short time. We have lost the art of lingering.

We should do whatever it takes to get the mass market printers back in business. Deluxe editions with sprayed edges and fancy covers are great but I want cheap pocket-sized books too for when it's crowded on the subway and I just want to read my little cozy mystery or romance or big honking fantasy doorstopper without having to fuss with a bag. I should be able to pull out a book while waiting in line and then put it back easily without making a big production of how I'm reading in public. They're the perfect size for reading on planes. I don't want to read on my phone, it's too easy to get distracted. Lending someone a mass market just feels better bc if you don't get the book back you're only out a couple bucks and if you do get it back you can see that they've read it and hopefully enjoyed it bc the spine is a little cracked. I don't want to walk into a library and see the only copies of their pulpy, "trashy" thrillers and true crime and smut books getting older and more busted and falling apart and finally being removed. Mass markets are an important part of the literary ecosystem and I don't care that they're not profitable, they should still exist.
