actually j have another Goldbug take and it's that I think he is scared. Perpetually. I'm not just talking paranoia I think he has been scared since Earth. When he almost died I think he was scared. And then Optimus essentially told him he was entirely discardable. He got lucky to be able to stay online. I think Goldbug is fucking terrified of his own demise and that nobody will care when he goes. And in his pursuit to change that by being bigger and stronger he causes it by pushing away everyone and hurting people to get his way. Self fulfilling prophecy of a horrible ending for Goldbug. The harder he tries to run from it the faster it pulls him in

well actually the main thing people don't remember about Goldbug is that he's not incompetent. He's actually pretty good at what he does. He takes out the Insecticons + Skywarp + almost Thundercracker but he gets cocky that time. He can't beat Optimus and probably not Megatron or Magnus but if Jetfire hadn't gotten the jump on him I think he'd be able to hold his own at least for a bit. Like he's genuinely good at what he does but he gets overlooked so much it feeds his insecurities and complexes and that leads to his downfall. He doesn't loose because he's weak or dumb he looses because he gets in his own head about everything he does and his ego gets in his way
