On the other hand I am critical of trans aproaches to feminism attempting to degender issues like menstruation and reproductive health tied to the presence of a vagina and uterus.While I agree these body parts and phenomena ought not be gendered, the fact is the politics which surrounds them does gender them. As I’ve said in the past, theyre not reducible wholly to women’s issues (nor are womens issues reducible to them) BUT they can still be, and must be in many instances, framed as womens issues and a part of feminist struggle.

I don’t want a feminism which collapses, erases, or obfuscates differences in embodiment (which both radical feminists, trans feminists, and most white feminists have done). I want a feminism which accepts and begins with difference and the multiplicity of women’s embodiment.

If you get invited to a baby shower, get something for the baby or whatever but also get a present for the mom. Babies are great and all, I LOVE babies, but this is about mom (even though no one thinks that). Remind mom that she’s important and you’re there. Get her some sort of self-care item. No one ever thinks about mom. Everyone is so obsessed with babies and her pregnancy, but once she’s had the baby and she’s home with a newborn no one ever asks, “are you okay?”. Everyone just wants to hold the fucking baby. Before you ask to hold the fucking baby; bring over a meal or cook, go grocery shopping, do the laundry, do the dishes, clean the house, or offer to hold the baby while she showers. Actually give a shit about mom. Then maybe you can care about the fucking baby.
