i love all characterisations of homelander but personally, i don't think he likes himself very much even though he knows he is better than other people. he knows. he's been told. he didn't get raised in a lab to become powerful for nothing. but he still doesn't like himself.

rewatched the finale again and i'm even more upset about it now. does anyone have any fic recommendations that rewrite the ending to be actually good?

no actually i'm SO upset like ik hundreds of other people have ranted about this already but holy shit we lost the plot so bad SIMPLY KILLING HOMELANDER ISNT A HAPPY ENDING VOUGHT IS STILL ALIVE AND WELL AND THE OMLY REASON HOMELANDER HURT THE POEPLE HE HURT IS BECAUSE VOUGHT MADE HIM THAT WAY WHY ARE WE ACTING LIKE EVERYTHING IS ALLNJUST WELL AND GOOD BECAUSE HOMELANDER DIED?? VOUGHT IS STILL THERE😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 H MY GOD 😭 listen id be fine with them killing homelander and leaving vought if the ending message was some dark commentary on how the evil corporations always survive even if the 'products' die and how they'll just continue the cycle of abuse, BUT THATS NOT THE MESSAGE WE GOT. fuckass kripke acted like the mentally ill, hurt, abused person dying, and the people that made him living, was a happy ending. it's such a mockery to all the abuse homelander went thru??? i also feel like there was a really important message there for so long about how butcher prioritizing revenge over everything else was also insanely destructive and terrible and the finale touched on that a liiiittle bit and i appreciate that ryan called him out on it but why are they all acting like he was an amazing noble guy at his funeral??? no he wasn't?? he sucked too??? god i just can't get over how upsetting it is that homelander's death is treated like such a joke tho . he was so deep into psychosis that in his last moments he was hallucinating the lady that groomed him FOR LIKE 30 YEARS BUT NOPE THATS ALL JUST FUNNY TO KRIPKE I GUESS ?? no and like all of the pacing in the finale is awful too and there are so many continuity errors and so many major plot points that came up out of nowhere and were clearly not written in until last minute just for the sake of killing the supes IT ALL FEELS LIKE SUCH A COP OUT. i also feel like the finale was written to act more like a memento to the fans that had been following the show for so long, rather than it being written to be simply a good finale. like none of the rest of season 5 ties anything back to previous seasons so it's as if they felt the need to overcompensate in the finale and bring up all of these tie backs that hadn't been mentioned for multiple seasons just to try to get the viewers to feel nostalgic about the first seasons, which dgmw could've been nice, IF THEY HAD ALSO WRITTEN A GOOD COHERENT FINALE OTHERWISE. BUT THEY DIDNT. SO ITS ALL JUST A BUNCH OF SELF AWARE JOKES MADE TO ENGAGE WITH THE AUDIENCE INSTEAD OF GOOD WRITING. pmo
