This is where I plan to reblog all of the content for my Hatchetfield Holywebs au! I usually post on my main and my art account about it, but for your sake and mine, I wanted a place to consolidate all of the information regarding this au into one place.
I will still post about and take asks for my au on my other blogs, but if youād rather look at a blog rather than tag search for the au this is where you should come!
Iād also love take asks for my au here as well!
If you see anything reblogged and itās not from one of my other blogs, itās likely because someone said something I want to adopt into the auās canon
šøļøWhat is this au?šøļø
The Holywebs AU is a Hatchetfield AU where Grace Chasity and Hannah Foster become successors to Miss Holloway after she dies at the hands of Wilbur Cross.
Over the course of the AU, Grace slowly becomes obsessed the power of the Black Book, while Hannah comes to terms with the burden of power.
The au also features characters of various prominence including Webby, Steph, Lex, Ethan, Duke, Detective Shapiro, and any other Hatchetfield character I decide has relevance later! (Update: Recently I've been talking about Brenda and Pete a bit more!)
Also if you donāt like Grace or Lautity/Holyphone this au may not be your cup of tea because Iām obsessed with them lol
š«About meš«
If you made it this far you can call me Wups or Ups (she/they/he)!

Steph and Solomonās initial and last name being slaughter but not just in the sense of the others they had to sacrifice to reach their goals, but also the things they had to kill in themselves to get here
The pieces both Steph and Solomon had to bury alive within themselves to be popular, to be powerfully, to be respected, to be liked
One thing I like about Grace in this au is that sheās just so annoying at the beginning.
Like Holloway canāt stand her ass because sheās so self righteous and has her head in the sand. it pisses her of more because it reminds her of herself. Truly a miracle she decided to teach that girl anything. Hannah being there probably made her more tolerable
They would both die for each other if they donāt kill the other first
Theyāre always bickering but if you come after one of them, the other is jumping you
They have sleepovers and share clothes and have keys to the others house but like donāt imply that theyāre dating because they will make the most disgusted faces ever
Theyāre absolute ride or dies. When Steph is figuring out shit about her family Pete is there to help her through it, and when Peteās asshole brother goes missing she also helps him
They bond over having equal parts love and distain for their family. I love my brother/father so much but he is also one of the worst people Iāve ever met and I donāt if I could cope with the loss of him properly.
Theyāre exes who got closer *after* they broke up.
Theyāre still the lovers card in the tarot deck.
They both give each other *terrible* relationship advice. (I have decided Pete is aroallo in this au itās just speaking to me I donāt make the rules)
Steph absolutely failed her fwb situation with Lex how could she possibly help Pete with anything of that nature.
Pete does *not* understand why Steph likes Grace *at all* because sheās kind of insufferable and being in a room with her for more than ten minutes irks him.
Steph feels really guilty for getting Pete involved with Graces shit when things get real and she realizes he could actually get hurt. She tries to get Pete to give up the investigation and he chews her out for even considering leaving him behind to face Grace on her own.
Anyways I want to develop Peteās place in the au a bit more, which doesnāt spell good things for Ted⦠bro might be dead if I decide to incorporate Pete more into the auā¦

I donāt have time for *another* sub au, but I am really fascinated by the idea of the Holywebs Swapped au, or rather, an au where Steph comes into the possession of the Black Book after Holloway is killed, and under the influence of Solomon and Wilbur, she Steph feels the need to continue her familyās legacy (and chokehold) over hatchetfield.
The circumstances that would lead to her feeling an obligation to her father would be interesting because she lowkey doesnāt give a fuck about her old man from what weāve seen (actually I think we should unpack Steph Just Going To Homecoming after her dad is Literally dead)
Idk maybe Solomon dies in this au as well and Steph has no idea how to cope with the grief and Wilbur takes advantage of that
And then the trio to stop her would be Pete, Grace and Hannah
Iām always talking about Grace and Shapiro and Duke and Hannahās morals, but I also should be emphasizing Holloway. Her tarot card essentially has a āwhat goes around comes aroundā cosmic karma vibes and if THAT isnāt an interesting moral code to put up against these characters idk what is.
Like especially against Shapiro and Grace given their religious backgrounds and the all out war that is Christians arguing about the purpose of works when it comes to salvation
This is simultaneously about morality but also salvation. Like soteriology and morality are inherently linked in what Iām writing here. Also these are disjointed bullet points because I tried to write this in a linear manner and it was either too long/unintelligable. Also I donāt talk about predestination. Guys predestination haunts my narrative. I think about it constantly. BUT TRUST ITS A FACTOR HERE I SWEAR *I say as they drag me away*
also I'm half asleep writing this so like... have that in mind
Holloway
You reap what you sow
If you do good good comes back to you, and vice versa
Good is ācharityā and āserviceā based. Essentially community/human centered moralityĀ
(more humanitarian?)
Karma is the ācosmic current of causalityā ā so this law she abides by is universal
Is immortal, and thus has an eternity to atone for any wrongs she has ever committed
Very action based
No real conception of an afterlife, what goes around comes around in *this life*
And again, holloway is immortal, so āthis lifeā is a looooooong time. She has forever to do good, and forever to do wrong
Karmic punishment for doing wrong does create a personal āthreatā for treating others poorly, thus you can do the āright thingā for the āwrong reasonsāĀ
How much does motive factor into this?
Holloway has experienced karmic punishment personally (the deal)
Grace
āGoodā and ābadā are determined by God
Literal tangible harm that can be caused by performing Gods will have no moral implications
Grace hurts someone by following Gods laws? Well grace is still still in the right in this scenario because she followed god
Grace helps you by following God? Well your happiness/prosperity isnāt actually relevant in how morally good what she did was.
No real ākarmaā on earth, you are only repaid for your good deeds in the after life, and the āgood deedā in question is just being a christian
You also only have a limited amount of time to be saved, once youāre dead no take backsies
Not community oriented. Helping others is only good because God commands it/says its good, not because of any human value that isnāt an extension of God
āGood worksā are not rewarded, they are an assumed byproduct of already being saved.
Doing āgood thingsā whilst not christian doesnāt mean anythingĀ Ā
Shapiro
Abides by the law similarly to grace, she follows the law for the sake of the law, not the impact of it
Even though the American justice system is sooooo messed up
Said this before but like my knowledge of catholicism is limited so feel free to add any thoughts/correct me
Heavier focus on atonement in catholicism, cant just fuck around and expect to still be in good favor, like you actually have to commit
Indulgences???? Purgatory??? Confession???? Putting in a pin in that.Ā
In general the concept of purgatory is more contrary to the protestant idea of āyeah either or no take backsies youāre dead youāre doneā but I could be wrong
Guys thereās a reason the phrase āCatholic Guiltā is a thing
Also like confession and the emphasis of truth, which ties into shapiroās tarot card (I donāt have time to talk about mcnamara and how that relates to his tarot card⦠then Iād also have to talk about wilburā¦lmk if you want me to talk about them and do similar bullet points)
āAnd though mistrust can lead to spiritual exhaustion, it canāt be denied that when the constable is right, sheās right.ā āguys the black tarot just has so many juicy character bits
Talks about her āexposing corruptionā like the truth coming to light and aghhh
Shapiro is very invested in upholding justice in other peopleĀ
Can you tell Iām more delirious writing this section
Hannah
Good things donāt come to good people on their own
You have to bring good to others because the world wont do it
Doing the right thing is a thankless job, but that doesnāt make it any less important
theres more to say but I'm tired
Lex
Lots based on tarot card
āThe whole bullshit system is riggedā ā definitely doesnāt like shapiro bcs sheās pro system
Restructuring a system that is designed to hold specific people down
Commentary about restorative justice is in here somewhereĀ
Also Iām kind of very distracted write now so I canāt really keep elaborating but yeah those are my thoughts
Also Webby, Wilbur and sort of Macnamara would be other characters to dissectĀ
(macnamara never appears in the au but he haunts the narrative because of wilbur)
Also also also just realized I forgot Duke whoops!

Like especially against Shapiro and Grace given their religious backgrounds and the all out war that is Christians arguing about the purpose of works when it comes to salvation
I donāt believe in overly explaining oneās writing because freedom of interpretation,
but I would like to point out that in my first fic I did reference the pledge allegiance to the Bible when Wilbur is giving his warning to Grace (because Christian nationalism is haunting this narrative)
and when Wilbur says the apple wonāt kill Grace, itās a direct reference to the serpent saying āyou certainly will not dieā in Genesis 3:4
The next night, Grace prepares to return to her dream, or Nightmare Time, as heād called it. She hopes thatās all it was, a nightmare. Nightmares arenāt real. Theyāre just conjurings of the mind to pass the idle time of sleep. Maybe theyāre indicative of deeper fears, but most of the timeāGrace insistsāthey donāt mean much. He was just a mental phantom. He couldnāt hurt her. He couldnāt tempt her. He was dead. She had watched him die, his chest torn open, eyes glassy and lifeless⦠but as she tucks herself into bed, in the black of her room, she can almost see those glassy eyes burn to life, vivid and green.
When she arrives, the right side of the church is exactly the same. She could count the six windows, spot the communion table, and the cross far back and above. She would reach to count the pews as well, but her focus on the ritual is completely disrupted by the left side of the room.
The symmetry of the church is shattered. Just to the left of the pulpit, a tree has taken root. Itās massive and old, certainly older than Grace, with a thick trunk grown all the way to the ceiling. The treeās roots run like cracks in glass all across the left side of the room, reaching around the pews, up the walls, across the windows, so as light shines through them, they cast fractured shadows on the floor. One branch stretches out over the stage like a brambled hand, and at its very tip, offers a single green apple.
The apple. It was the apple, of course. Grace mentally kicks herself. That was a stupid mistake on her part, leaving it. Holloway had explained to her and Hannah the importance of symbols, but sheād let herself get caught up in her anger and frustration and left it there.Ā
Grace makes her way towards the tree. She counts the pews out loud, hoping the sound of her voice will cast out the tree like it does her anxiety. It doesnāt. Not only that, but she finds the only change mirrored across both sides of the room is that darn missing fourteenth pew, which isnāt much of a comfort.

This is ripped directly from some of my previous reblogs talking about the starlets, so if you've already read that chain then this will have nothing new in it.
I just wanted to pull out the chess bit and isolate it a) for my own purposes so I don't have to do as much scrolling to refer back to it and b) so its a bit more accessible for people looking around the blog
this blog serves as a space to brainstorm and archive things related to this au so it helps me to have things organized lol.
Chess stuff (this gets long lol)
Iāve actually thought a lot about chess metaphors before, just because I find them really interesting. I went through my massive brainstorming document and found a few snippets that feel relevant. Also I was just rereading Wilburās tarot card and saw he also had a chess metaphor and I was like āoh wow I was really on brand wasnāt I?ā
In my fic I implied Holloway to be Webbyās Queen, but I also like the idea of them as a group each having their own distinct pieces from each other, and Geraldine definitely gives knight, especially because Marnie really embodies the Queen.
(Actually I reread my fic and no I didnāt do that. I did imply she was a knight I donāt remember my own writing lol.)
Iām about to go over my thoughts on each piece, and some things will connect to the four of them but some of this is just my own personal musings. If I were to assign each of them pieces officially I would drop or emphasizes certain parts.
Pawns are always framed in a derogatory light. No one wants to be a pawn. No one wants to be easily sacrificed, a faceless shield or bait, but the pawn is crucial to the function of the board. What they lack in individual strength they make up for in numbers. Pawns are an example of community building. Everyone wants to convince you itās best to be a knight or a rook, but a legion of pawns can fell even the strongest piece. Though if a pawn so chooses, if they find themselves through luck or careful planning at the end of the board, they can be made into a queen. A powerful piece indeed⦠but one still bound by servitude, as all the pieces are.
I always think of the knight as being able to vault over obstacles, its movements unorthodox and unwieldy, but in the hands of a skilled player incredibly deadly. Its unusual path makes it surprisingly deceptive, given knights being known most typically for their honor. Despite taking the image of the horse, it is one of the slowest pieces to move across the board, faster only than the pawn, but its unique strengths make up for this. It could also be argued that the knight is the most intricate piece. An artfully sculpted horses head. The only piece that looks remotely *alive.* The others are mere shapes with many lines of symmetry. The rest of the board is faceless, only the knight has eyes to see and a mouth to scream, but a horse is merely a beast, so whoās to say thatās better.
The rook is straight forward, dependable. Unlike other pieces, its movements are not difficult to understand or master, but that doesnāt make it any less effective. The more winding and unorthodox movements of other pieces are only so effective because they work against the strength and standard of the rook.
Bishops are a little more predictable than the knight, but a little bit trickier than the rook. While the rook always needs an open space to move through, and knight leaps over many obstacles, the bishop can slide between spaces, then swiftly capturing an opponents piece from the other side. Itās also interesting to note that the bishop is the only piece that will only ever touch one color of square. Always black. Always white. Never both. Itās because of the checkerboard pattern perfectly matching up with the movement of the bishop itself. The bishop may be sly, but they adhere to a specific code, a specific pattern. A certain kind of loyalty mayhaps.
The Queen has the strengths of both the rook and the bishop. Straightforward when needed, and agile and lithe when required. The only power it does not posses is that of the knight. It has a near full range of movement across the board, but it is never capable of going *over* any other pieces. It moves in straight lines only. Despite it lacking this ability, it is still the most powerful piece in the board, and one of only two pieces that have no same colored counterpart.
The king. Oh the king. The second weakest piece of the game, its movement only outclassing the pawn. Unlike the pawn however, it lacks any comrades in arms. It is singular and solitary. The queen is its counterpart, but their only similarities are their stature and crowns. The king offers no true benefit in its presence, but its loss denotes the end of the game. Nobody likes the king. Nobody cares for their ruler, for their oppressor, but his demise spells ruin for every other piece, thus they all serve to keep him throned, and keep the game going.
Also I think thereās something to be said about the physical attributes of each piece which I talked about a little with the knight. The knight is the most lifelike, the pawns are the most featureless, the rook is literally just a building, the bishop, queen and king have sculpting meant to mimic a crown/bishops mitre.
I also brushed on how almost every piece has a pair on the other side of the board, the exception being the pawns who come in a legion, and the king and queen, who are less like copies and more like foils.
Also I didnāt know how to make it relevant but Iām always thinking about how pawns can move two spaces on their first move optionally. Another thing is that pawns are allowed no regrets. They may only move forward. The only escape is being trapped, never to move again, captured, aka dead, or reaching the end of the board and becoming something completely new.
Iām sure thereās a metaphor of the pentagrams viewing their fans as pawns, not realizing that they are an equally crucial part of the game.
Itās been years since I played chess, I used to be in a club but that was *forever* ago, so all of this is based on my surface level observations and ability to extrapolating meaning out of literally anything.
I was thinking of being a bit more laid back in my response and then you brought up the chess metaphor and then I blacked out and wrote this.
Oh oh also also like religious vibes in chess?? Like the have a bishop so Iām sure thereās some sort of connection to Catholicism that Iām missing. I think this is my sign I need to do a chess deep diveā¦
