just to let you know i went outside today in the streets of my little mountain town and i peered up at the sun in the dusty street and the dogs were barking and a rooster crowed and the smell of gasoline and my grandmother’s cooking filled the air and i found god.
so beware!! he is on the loose and you might find him crouching in the dust between your foot and sandal, or in the swing of a hammock as your aunt puts her baby to sleep! i suppose it is true what they say, then, that you cannot escape god.

Saw a TikTok video quoting a tweet that was like “13 year old me would think current me is so cool and hot and that’s all that really matters” and it got me emotional because like. That’s not true! 13 year old me would be horrified by her future.

I think I was around 12 when I started to believe I’d end up in outer darkness. A kid should never have to fear that. But I did. I thought trying to reconcile my sexuality with what I’d been taught about God’s commandments was a losing battle. And seeing adult me would have been a confirmation of all of child me’s worst fears.
Overall, I think I’m healing pretty well. Most days, I am. But sometimes reminders like this pop up, and I think I’ll spend the rest of my life carrying around that kid inside me, trying to convince her she’s not condemned to spend all eternity alone in the dark.
