This is called Afrezza. It’s an inhaler for diabetic insulin. That’s right. An inhaler. That means no more needles. It’s only for fast acting insulin, but it could still vastly improve the life of a lot of diabetics. 

Imagine having to constantly prick yourself with needles to keep yourself alive, and then suddenly there’s a new product that could change the whole way you live your life for the better.

And here’s the thing: it works. It works really really well. People with diabetes that have been lucky enough to have used it think it’s amazing.

But sadly, it’s probably going to end up as a failure because the pharmaceutical company (a French company called Sanofi) that was in charge of marketing it didn’t care enough to actually try. Not only that, but they made it incredibly expensive so hardly anyone could afford it. Most people have never heard of it, and the way things are going, no one else ever will.

Okay took me longer than I thought but here’s the full deal:

I am currently actively seeking work but the search has not been going well. However, I believe it’s only a matter of time now! Things have been looking up in ways but I am still in serious need of help.

Presently, I spend my nights at a homeless shelter that costs $7 a night. It isn’t the best place and I’m looking for alternatives, but for now it’s what I have and I don’t have an immediate choice.

The shelter is a Christian ministry with a very strong anti-LGBT slant and has a mandatory nightly chapel service, frequently having guest speakers that go out of their way to insult, condemn or encourage negativity towards LGBT people.

As a transgender lesbian, this has been extremely damaging for my mental health. I already suffer from severe depression and terrible anxiety. I am not out to anyone but my brother, but it’s still terrifying especially considering a recent guest pastor gave full personal details about the son of an acquaintance of his, the son being a trans man, including his address and legal name with implications that he should be ‘set straight’, mocking, misgendering him and bragging about not acknowledging his identity the entire time.

In addition, while the residents who are taking part in the ministry’s program (which is to help and readjust people that have had their lives ruined by drugs and alcohol) are generally fine, many of the guests are violent and dangerous. I fight over a petty argument occurred earlier this week and one of the two was stabbed and hospitalized.

Because of these two factors I am in a constant state of fear. My dear friends, who I would not be here today without, have talked me down from ending my own life over hopelessness in this situation several times.

I need to get out of this situation.

The sooner I get a job the better, but I need help with fund to assure I last long enough to do so. 

$50 ensures I’ll have enough money to cover a week of shelter. This alone helps immensely, but every bit is so, so appreciated.

I have not been eating well and I’m constantly in need of gas for my car, without which I am done for.

I do not have any family that is able to take me in and aid me, even those in my family that would if they could. I’m alone and I need help.

someone I went to high school with (literally the nicest/most helpful!!) just flew down to Jacksonville with their mom because their 17-year-old brother was shot in a mass shooting yesterday. the flights down from NJ already wiped their money and they need help with medical bills, surgery costs, and flights back home
