The Rise of New Media Effect in Sunflower Student Movement
New media generally indicates that using new technologies such as computer and Internet is causing fundamental change through traditional media’s format, context, and form. New media is the new communication models or form generated by applying digital technic into information communication media. Since its operation is different from newspaper, radio, television, and magazine these four traditional media, it’s also called “the fifth media”.
Traditional Media v.s. New Media
The Media Environment of Taiwan
The reason why new media rises is that, except the emergence of civic consciousness, it’s mostly about the corruption of the traditional business media. The traditional business media has the need of enormous commercial profit, which leads to the disappearance of ethics of journalism with problems of secularization, centralization, and company concentration. Moreover, there’s an even bigger problem in the media ecology of Taiwan: China. Chinese corporations attract enterprises with capitalism, but they try to control freedom of speech in order to implement their political goal at the same time.

CSSTA Pros & Cons
Pros:
Some politicians and businessmen of Taiwan hold positive perspective to CSSTA. They advocate that CSSTA is beneficial to Taiwan because the industrial subjects that China offer are more open than the level that WTO’s agreement does. Also, allowing Chinese corporations and entrepreneur to come to Taiwan contributes to increasing job opportunity in Taiwan, improving labor condition, situation and payment, generating a healthy competition. It’s an opportunity to start free trade by allowing the Taiwanese corporations to deploy service industry in China. (“海峽兩岸服務貿易協議,” n.d.)
What is CSSTA?
Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement is one of the agreements under the structure of Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA). ECFA includes Economic Cooperation (signed 6/29/2010), Investment Protection (signed 8/9/2012), Trade in Services (signed 6/21/2013), Dispute Settlement (scheduled), and Trade in Goods (discussing, estimated completing the negotiation in 2013). (鄭秀玲, n.d.)
The Relationship Between Taiwan and China
The relationship between Taiwan and China has been complicated since the Chinese Civil War in 1949. Along with the foundation of the People’s Republic of China and the migration of Republic of China, the two sides across the Taiwan Strait stayed in a divergent situation. Nowadays, Cross-Strait relationship usually specifically indicates the tangled political relationship after the People’s Republic of China was established. Currently, neither of two sides recognizes the other as a country that has full sovereignty. (“海峽兩岸關係,” n.d.)
Three points among free trade agreement: First, any trade agreement has to be symmetrical. Second, no trade agreement should put commercial interests ahead of broader national interests. Finally, there must be commitment to transparency.
