Swimming in the San Gabriel River with 5 year old and 9 year old. The boys love to swim in the river. This river is pretty low all year around the highest water level is usually right after the snow melts in the Los Angeles Forest / Big Bear Mountains. The San Gabriel river is highest from March to May, as the snow melts the river below swells. But even then the water is not deeper than 3 feet. ~Eileen Felix . *Please feel free to Subscribe and Like video to support Hiking with Kids TIPS for Hiking with Toddlers under 3 feet tall or Non Swimming small children While I have my toddler I carry the items across the river first then carry him across. . . . You will be hungry after 2. Your children will sleep like babies that night 3. Being in nature is healing 4. Take deep slow breathes when you feel frustrated or scared. 5. Always stand your ground For Safety: 1. Bring whistle 2. Be aware of your surroundings 3. Be aware of the people who pass by. What are they wearing? In case you have to remember them later 4. Stand your ground Hiking Etiquette: 1. Stay on the right side of the path 2. Greet fellow travelers with a friendly hello or have a good day. Any thing short and sweet to keep a good vibe and as a emotional/intention check in with fellow travelers. 3. Wait on the side with there is only enough space for one person to cross. 4. Say thank you 5. Clean up after yourself. Leave NO TRASH behind. Take trash with you back. (There are usually metal trash bins by the restroom or bring a small trash bag if needed. ) Thank you.
