I must say how sad it is that he's been thrown to the side by what he considered were his parental figures, TWICE.

Yes, Ozai's and Iroh's cases are wildly different in context and motivation. But just as he was banished when he didn't conform to the FN's standards and Ozai had the models chance to throw him out since he didn't want him around, he's also been swept to the side in Iroh's life via being pushed to be Firelord (since Iroh didn't want to do anything other than fulfill his weird obsession with the city he's tried to colonize and then profited off living there with zero issues nor duties)

Both cases are so eerily similar in the sense that the adults he wanted familial love from, directed him towards his supposed "destiny" that would "redeem him", with him be totally irrelevant—or at the very least an afterthought in the caretaker's life afterwards. And Zuko followed suit because he very much loved the figure in question and believed everything it said to him. He was sent on duties, life-long missions that he was severely unprepared for.

The only difference is that by the end of the series it's because he's now doing "the right thing", because he was told so.

(also, may be a little bit of a hot take but I think he and Azula were forcefully adultified, in a way. Not to mention how Ursa and Iroh basically treated Azula the exact same way and she, in particular, never truly had a real familia figure that loved her unconditionally or didn't use her.)(They truly are the doomed siblings.../lh)

My family and friends have all reported safe. Things are very scary still, lots of rescue efforts by civilians are underway. Maybe this made Azula afraid to become the firelord because of assassination. Azula thinks shes too monsterous to be put on the throne and people will backstab her too. During her nervous breakdown, she had this persecution complex, it mightve been a very specific fear. She was extremely paranoid about the idea of people trying to betray or kill her.

She helped Zuko restore his honor & title, placing him back on the line of succession with little beneift to herself. Ozai also just makes him crown prince immediately no questions asked. Its said many times that firelord is Zuko's birthright. Maybe Azula thought Zuko deserved to be firelord more, her mother left just to save him afterall, and that adds to Azulas frustration that Zuko is such a loser and resents the fact that he got himself banished because he wasted her sacrifice. Maybe helping Zuko was to honor Ursa and put their differences aside to show her brother that she wanted him around too. (Of course she masks it though)
