Headcannon: Stratt gets him the soft serve machine without realizing those things are borderline sentient and fussy little pieces of shit that refuse to work until you clean them and have very specific procedures they have to follow. So Stratt is now stuck where Ryland keeps threatening to quit if his ice cream machine stops working and Stratt is trying to convince genuinely important members of the project to clean it because it hates her and never likes it when she does it

Imagine some years into life on Erid and Grace just starts doing weird science on anything he can get his hands on because just because he lives here now doesn't make the alien planet any less interesting. And he discovers a microorganism that makes ethanol as a byproduct of decomposition and goes holy shit. What if I fed taumoeba to this and make a BUNCH of alcohol. That would be fun.

He then spends three months turning every available part of his biodome into a brewery, using astrophage as a heater to speed up the reaction, not telling Rocky what he's up to. And then naturally it turns out to be the most vile obnoxious substance ever of course. To which he explains with disappointment in his heart to Rocky what he was doing by trying to ferment the taumoeba and Rocky responds with

"Why not ferment Erid plant life, question?"

To which Grace realizes that there's SO MUCH STUFF he could ferment into alcohol and goes into a two year spiral of researching how to make various new alien alcohols lmao

Grace: yeah so I used microbial life from Erid to make an ethanol drink like we had back on earth! I even made a little hydrometer to show me how much alcohol it contains!

Rocky: what is a hydrometer, question?

Grace: it's a little weight that shows how dense a liquid is! I calibrated it using vodka and water because I want a density inbetween those! And I made it out of an old test tube and a small blob of mercury!

Rocky: ...

Grace: ...what?

Rocky: ... where the FUCK did that mercury come from, QUESTION!?
