bonus: BB-8 straight up resuming the drama bc he’s his dad’s son

“Well, that’s that.” Poe mutters, turning off the comm. “Antilles brought a kriffing virus back to base. Thirty people have tested positive already.”

“Thirty?!” Finn’s eyes are wide. “He just got back,” he says, and Poe only shakes his head in response. “What happens now?”

“We’re self-isolating,” Poe answers, sounding bitterly amused. “Everyone is to stay in their quarters until further notice.”

“We’re trapped?” Finn says, and Poe only chuckles, clapping his friend on the shoulder.

“We’ll see. They’re trying to contain this thing but it’ll take time.” Poe sighs, sinking down onto his bed. “It’s just you, me, and BB-8 now, buddy.”

The other man stares at him, taking in the modest size of their shared quarters. It’s not ideal, and certainly not what he had planned for.

Yet, he’s with Poe. 

Maybe this won’t be so bad after all.

This will never not break my heart. Poe thinks he’s about to die. And you can see him trying to work up the courage to say what he needs to say.

Though, when Leia recruited him to be a part of the Resistance, he thought he would be just that. He never believed he could be more than a pilot until Leia showed him otherwise. He never even wanted to be more but Leia chose him for a reason. There was so many other people who were more capable than him to lead but she chose him, an arrogant pilot who makes impulsive decisions. 

Now he knows he’s meant for so much more than he originally believed. And it’s an intense pressure that he sometimes doesn’t know if he can handle. But it’s his duty to fulfill Leia’s wishes for him.

Poe struggles with this. He struggles balancing what his heart yearns for, Finn, and his calling. He loves Finn more than he’s loved anything but he has this burden of the greater good resting on his shoulders. He’s torn. 

“My heart may belong to you,” he tells Finn. “But I belong to the stars. Every minute that I’m with you, I’ll be thinking about the stars where I’m needed. But every second I’m out there in the stars, I’ll be wishing I was with you.“ 

"Well, then I guess it’s a good thing I won’t make you chose,” Finn tells him. “Because I want to be with you, among the stars.”

He held the necklace up so he could see its silhouette in sunlight. It was a burden. His whole life this little piece of jewelry had been a burden. It drove him away from his family, his home, his heart. It was time to let go. He closed his eyes and waited until the next gust of wind came…

…and then he let go.
