âThatâs another one up you have on me. I donât know how I made it to the level Iâm at. I canât remember shit. The recipes at the restaurant, I just end up throwing shit in that sounds familiar. Iâm actually the worst.â She snorted but kept a proud grin on her face. Riku rolled her eyes, âPfft, if an expert like yourself is giving me the go ahead on my drinks, then fuck them.â She gave a small thank you before taking a long sip of her new drink. Riku set it down, savoring the taste before continuing her dish. Her eyebrows raised in curiosity as Mickey explained her delicacy. âGarlic with extra milk and butterâŚâ Riku pondered on it for a moment, her lips poking out. âIâm impressed, those could fix anything. Is it minced or are you using garlic powder?â
âListen, if I tried just throwinâ shit into a pot, I wouldnât even come up with dog food. If that ainât a talent, I donât know what talent is. You make flavor-town look like a damn trailer park.â Mickey hoisted her small body up onto the edge of the counter, letting her feet dangle as she sipped at her drink, keeping herself far enough away so that she didnât continue to swipe half of the ingredients. âYou can make our next drink--that being said, I ainât gonna be drivinâ home tonight, so I hope you donât mind a couch-guest âtil the morninâ.â She rolled her eyes dramatically, as if Riku was uncultured swine for even asking. âMinced, of course..â she sighed, smiling a little since she couldnât keep the sass up for long. âCooked up in a bit of olive oil first, though. Also basil! Basil makes every single thing better. I have a lilâ plant in my window, but I only get about five or six leaves every few months..â

âDeal! I completely failed mixology in school. But fuck it, my drinks were delicious to me! Who cares if they were completely spiked, they got the job done.â Riku laughed as she swiped her vegetables into her pan before grabbing her onions. She raised an eyebrow to Mickey with her lips poked out in concern. âAnd how exactly do you even make that tragedy taste edible?â
âThatâs alright--I dropped outtaâ high school and I definitely donât have any mixology in my repertoire. Just good at rememberinâ stuff, I guess. Ended up beinâ way more useful than I ever thought.â Mickey shook her head, âAnd Iâve had your drinks. Theyâre surely strong, but theyâre not bad at all. Besides, Iâm not quite one to judge.â Standing up proudly, she passed Riku her glass with a grin. âGarlic,â she said simply. âI swear to baby Jesus, that shit changes everything. Also like, half as much milk and twice as much butter as the box says, among some other random shit. Fuck calories--Iâm here for a good time, not a long time.â

âI just donât see what the big deal is. Whenever I tell someone Iâve never had a caramel apple, they act like I just brutally murdered a man right in front of them. I donât like beinâ sticky and it just sounds like a big mess. I mean, ainât it?â

Riku snorted, poking her lips out to the other woman before lowering her head back down to her vegetables. âTo be fair, I only let you come here because you can mix a mean Long Island. So I guess itâs a fair trade for me.â She winked at the other.
Mickey grinned proudly. âThat I do,â she said, tossing another piece of bell pepper in her mouth before turning to refill their aforementioned glasses. âI will make you drinks all day if you keep feedinâ me like this. I donât even have enough counter space to make myself a proper meal. But I can tell yaâ one thing; I can turn a blue box of mac nâ cheese into a goddamn masterpiece.â
âI like to believe that Iâm a really nice personâŚâ She mused, looking down at her counter as she focused on dicing her onions before swiftly swiping them into the pot. âBut Iâm beginning to believe that youâd only come and badger me because I can cook you a nice meal.â Riku glanced up, giving her visitor a teasing smirk as she reached over to the side to grab a tomato to continue her dicing.
Mickey couldnât help but smirk a little, side-eyeing Riku. âI resent the fact that youâd think Iâm that shallow,â she said, shaking her head as she continued to pick at the ingredients the woman had set out on the counter. âBut I mean...it is a bit of a bonus. Even my maâ couldnât cook for shit. Who am I to turn down free food and good company tâboot?â
dazedxdaisyâ:
âHow did you know?â Daisy questioned, impressed by the guess. âHe does that horrible mumble rap shit.â
Mickey laughed a little louder. âI knew it!â she exclaimed, clapping her hands together. âIâll bet his content is real original, am I right? Money and bitches and such? Poor guy probably thinks heâs a revolutionary..â
âI know art is subjective and everything but this guy in my class literally turned in a black and white photo of a tipped over lawn chair. Iâm done with these âiâm so deep you canât even see meâ hipster types.â
Mickey couldnât help but cackle, always a fan of the exact type the girl was talking about. âIs he one of them soundcloud artists too?â she asked. âIâll bet he is. All the money in my wallet--which...ainât much..â

Savannah couldnât relate to what Mickey was going through since her training was more careful and extensive. That and she had about seven inches over the younger woman. Her lips were sucked in in attempt to keep from smiling or laughing since Mickey finally noticed her laughing. Instead, she took one of Mickeyâs arms and very slowly lifted it up, totally realizing she forgot ear muffs for the session today.
But after what sheâd just witnessed, it was totally worth it to end it after this little incident anyways. âYouâre fine Mickey. You might have a bruise on your face and some sore arms but youâre fine.â She answered loud enough to get past the ringing in her ears. âThanks for that laugh though. I needed that.â
Mickey had never been so thankful to see her appendages, sighing in relief as Savannah lifted her arm up. âOh thank goodness..â she said. âYou ever seen a one-armed bartender? I sure havenât. Donât plan on beinâ one either.â So maybe she hit her head a little bit too. The redhead bit her lip to keep herself from babbling anymore.
With a groan, Mickey sat up, rubbing the back of her head. She felt like sheâd been hit by a train, and it wasnât until she went to rub her eyes that she realized what Savannah meant by a bruise on her face. âIâm gonna need enough ice to fill a whole tub,â she mumbled, rolling her eyes at the woman. âYeah, any time. Glad to be of assistance..â

âThis is going to make me sound totally lame. But I love back to school time so much specifically because they always have an incredible section of planners and highlighters which Iâm totally down for.âÂ
âThat ainât lame!â Mickey said, her cheeks a little pink with embarrassment after how quickly she responded. âYou know what I wish they still had? Them gel pens. Remember those? They had the neon ones and the sparkly ones; I had a ton of those when I was a kid. I remember always gettinâ in trouble because the teachers didnât like us doinâ our homework with âem.â
miss-savannah-hâ:
It was good to laugh every now and then. Real or not. Her prank was suppose to be harmless. Savannah anticipated that Mickey would at least have a sore shoulder and stumble backwards a little. Thatâs what should have happened. But this was the one time that Savannah didnât anticipate Mickeyâs size to everything else.Â
So to watch the smaller woman be knocked on her ass was surprising. And hilarious. A look of surprise crossed her face initially and before she could even stop it, Savannah burst into loud laughter. It felt so foreign but it also felt good. Like a laugh she hadnât had in a long time. She doubled over, trying to catch her breath, sides aching, as she grabbed the shot gun, set it on the table before going to her knees next to Mickey. Still laughing. It was only when her sides hurt too much that Savannah was able to reign it in, wiping the tears from her eyes gently and finally able to catch her breath. âOh. My. God. I did not see that coming.â She grinned, dimples out in full force and trying to force herself from laughing again.
Mickey supposed in that moment that she probably shouldâve asked a few more questions before pulling the trigger. Savannah was a pro, and she obviously was not. She coughed a few times, blinking away the stars in her vision before the laughing woman made her way into it. Mickey could hardly understand the words coming out of Savannahâs mouth, and all she could do was stare up at her, trying to regain feeling in the rest of her body. âDo I still have both arms???â she asked, her voice much louder than she was aware of. âI-I canât feel both arms. Just the one that I didnât blow off just now. Am I bleedinâ?? Do I have all my teeth?? How come youâre laughinâ so hard??â
miss-savannah-hâ:
âThat is why we are at the estate in the Hamptons and not my apartment in the city. Blow the ceiling off and it can easily be replaced.â She shrugged. âOh câmon its not that hard. This is a more modern pump shotgun. With new technology there is hardly any recoil and its easily to hold because the frame is light weight metal. Look.â As further incentive, Savannah grabbed a blank shotgun shell, loaded it and cocked it before pointing at the target and firing. Her shoulder easily went with the recoil, and she was picking up the empty shell. âSee? Nothing to it.â
âSaid no one ever...â Mickey mumbled, wondering just how life would be if money simply wasnât an object. Since working for Savannah, her income had definitely grown, but she was only comfortable. Watching the tall woman, Mickey had to swallow a knot in her throat at the sight, trying to put the fact that she'd never looked more attractive out of her mind. Savannah made it look easy, and quite possibly gave the smaller woman a bit of false confidence. âNothing to it,â she repeated a little nervously, taking the gun and doing everything Savannah did before propping up against her body like she did.Â
But when Mickey fired, the first thing she felt was the ground disappearing from beneath her feet. She saw a flash of light before her eyes shut firmly, and the next thing she knew, she was looking at the ceiling with absolutely no sign of air in her lungs. Mickey hadnât had the wind knocked out of her since she was a kid and she slipped off the monkey bars, landing on her back on the rough wood chips. She felt the pressure in her cheek from the gun having thwacked her in the face after pulling the trigger; the gun that she still held firmly against her body as the ringing in her ears became a muffled mess. After a moment, Mickeyâs lungs finally opened and she breathed in harshly, feeling her soul begin to return to her body as she blinked hard. Thankfully it was a blank, otherwise Savannah would without a doubt have a few handymen to call.
miss-savannah-hâ:
âRunning is all well and good if there are knives or fists only as weapons. But canât outrun a gun. And trust me, Iâve tried.â Savannah grumbled, her shoulder aching dully at the memory as she pulled out small boxes of blanks, setting them on the folding table. Looking at the smaller gun, Savannah smirked as she picked up a shot gun. âNope. This one. And relax, its not like Iâm putting you through intense training today.â She held it out with both hands with a more innocent looking smile. âThis is just an introduction. And after this you can have all the expensive drinks you want. My treat.â
Mickey glanced down at her elbow quickly, spotting the scar she sported from the first time she had to run from a knife. It was a small mark that represented an absolutely terrifying moment for her, so she supposed maybe Savannah was right. Still, she couldnât shake the nerves. And when the woman took the gun from the case that was almost as big as her whole body, she figured it must be a joke. âYouâre fuckinâ with me,â she said with a chuckle. âAinât no way you want me to shoot that thing. I bet Iâll put a hole in your ceiling or somethinâ. Or in you!â
âIâm not so sure about this..â Mickey said as she looked at the huge case of firearms. And knowing that it was only a small fraction of what Savannah owned made her swallow hard. The woman had been talking about it for a while. The training sheâd been doing at the gym was good, of course, but Savannah wanted her ability to defend herself to be a bit...broader. However, Mickey wasnât very eager to get started. Guns were a big part of her childhood; everyone had them, and she always just thought they were loud and dangerous and that most of the people who had them shouldnât be allowed to.
Her eyes landed on the tiniest one in the case, gesturing to it as she looked at Savannah. âYouâre gonna start me on like...this one, right?â she asked hopefully. Mickey was...small, for lack of a better word. And she was a runner, not a fighter. âIâm gonna need a drink after this. I hope you know that.â

Bram did as he was instructed and sat down tentatively on the barstool, but he didnât say anything. He didnât quite trust himself to speak without letting his emotions slip and he wasnât sure he wanted to talk about it anyway, so instead he just nodded slightly.
When the stranger nodded almost nervously, Mickey bent down a little to get eye-level with him as she gently pressed the ice against his cheek. âHey,â she said, a little softer than her regular chipper bartender voice. âYou came to the right place. If someoneâs out there tryinâ to get ya, ainât nobody cominâ in here. I got a shotgun behind the bar that Iâm way too scared to use but Iâll bet Joe ainât too scared.â Mickey smiled as she gestured to the other bartender. âYou want a drink? Somethinâ to numb the pain?â
Ever feel like something is missing?
âYeah, a few things. Mostly I regret not goinâ to college, but I was broker than the ten commandments when I moved here and the thought of loans always scared the hell outtaâ me..â
