one thing i find kinda interesting is the way that like…primarily algorithmic social media has exposed rpf to the world, and the way people are just like. fine with that. like you used to have to know the right people or the right keywords in order to find serious (no plausible deniability) rpf content, even if people weren’t necessarily trying to hide it. but now it often just gets served up to you as long as you show enough interest in a related topic.
like league specifically its just funny though to think about like idk Wadid scrolling his timeline and just seeing people posting seriously about 2hj sexual tension or whatever. thats very silly to me
idk also the idea of coming across rpf about yourself seems weird or at least off putting imo. like at some point during the pandemic there was that dream minecraft fic that got so popular it was crashing ao3 and i went to read it and realized that it was set like…5 miles from where i lived which was very strange. why do these guys live in MY city…and thats just my city what if someone was writing about my life!
but then again carzzy was writing his own rpf on twitter in like 2022 so who knows. some people like it. gotta assume he has a bit of a unique mind though
i guess my take is like…if someone wants to find rpf about themself/rpf in general they should have to go looking for it. which i think is a lukewarm and pretty normal take but sometimes people seem to forget the (algorithmic recommendation) nature of social media now. and of course that everything is just autotranslated, so a language barrier doesn’t mean much. so generally i think its actually become more important to keep stuff locked down than it used to be, but on the whole people seem actually less interested in doing that
