It makes me mad that this show can be so beautiful and just absolutely devastating in the best ways, written so well and the details so perfectly done that people still talk about it years after it ended. Then they gave us that shit ass ending😭

they should have shown cas getting spam calls because he would have been so confused by them two things could have happened: cas driving the caller mad with questions or cas just passing the phone to dean after telling the person calling he is going to pass the phone to his " versed in human affairs" person

dean taking on the burden and responsibility of driving as a form of care and protection. he can't control others on the road but he trusts himself to be sharp and alert and keep everyone safe. if something goes wrong it's on him and he will carry that guilt. also dean had to learn how to drive young, way before the normal age. and that is likely in part due to the fact that there may have been times when john might not have been fit to drive, whether because he was drunk or injured. this is another area in which dean was expected to be responsible and dependable.

the absolute trust shown though dean tossing the impala keys over to cas just moments after they'd been at each other's throats because cas had gone behind his back and stolen the colt. all of that is already forgiven as he casually tosses the keys to his childhood home, his safe place, and also symbolically his body and soul. it means so much.

One of the ways Dean is treated as the heart character is that it’s often his role alone to learn about the traumatic experiences of the found family, support them, grieve with them, and grow closer to them, while Sam is off doing some episodic plot related thing. It happens again here in 8.20, where Dean learns about Charlie’s parents accident and her mother being in a coma for 16 years, while Sam is busy researching. He then follows her into her dreams to rescue her and talks through her parents accident with her. Dean following Charlie into her dreams using African dream root is a nod to 3.10 Dream A Little Dream of Me where he and Sam took it to get into Bobby’s dreams when he was in a coma. Also in that episode, Dean found Bobby and helped him confront some of his traumatic memories, while Sam was off searching for the episodic villain.

John wasn't exactly sexist or homophobic. But he IS abusive. Dean feeling cagey about revealing vulnerable parts of himself to a family that always scapegoats him and denies him boundaries and acts generally emotionally abusive is really valid. Whether that applies to his queerness, gender, sexuality, specific relationships, his love of romcoms or whatever. It's all valid. Because John really did treat him like absolute crap even though he did love Dean in his own twisted inadequate ways.

i genuinely think that caring very deeply about whether a character tops or bottoms as if it's some important moral issue makes you the biggest loser on planet earth

i also think many people don't realize how heteronormative their views on bottoming vs topping are because it usually just boils down to the bottom being the feminine wilting flower and the top being the masculine beast. like maybe question why anyone messing with your favorite gay heteronormativity play upsets you that much lol

It is true that people in fandom equate top bottom with dom sub and probably mean the latter when they "headcanon" the former but I also think people need to be more open to the idea that D/s doesn't necessarily get indicated from personality either. Like for example a shy person who gets pushed around easily very well might enjoy having a dominant role with a partner they trust. That can even be affirming. Like BECAUSE of this issue you have in your real life to feel like someone will submit to YOU and defer to YOU is special for example. I think the idea that you just play the role that suits your personality in real life is part of why these same people seem to genuinely think being a Dom is like, kind of bad and scary
