consistently, consistently, there have been issues re: ableism in the solangelo fandom, and looking at those issues as single-instance-occurrences that happen one at a time isn’t helping y’all. at all. 

you need to make the effort to understand why it’s hurtful to people when you make jokes about immobility/mobility aids/gods forbid confiscating mobility aids. you need to understand that it does not matter whether or not you headcanon nico di angelo, specifically, as physically disabled, because the root of the joke is still ableism. 

and that goes for a lot of not-jokes too! a lot of shipping posts and fanfics revolve around nico not being able to do x, y, or z because he’s unconscious, or because he’s burnt out from using his powers, or, sometimes, for no real reason at all! often, it happens just because people think “nico can’t do anything by himself and so will acts as a savior figure” is a cute, fun ship trope, but like? that trope is ableist, too. it’s rooted in ableism. 

think of the “white savior” trope. that shit is gross, right? leaves a bad taste in your mouth? similar concept. apply it. use your critical thinking skills.

He also realistically should have a service dog tbqh also if we’re talking ableism in pjo/hoo which is prominent literally all the good characters have like small scars on the body or Jason’s small face one (like the only good! 😒 Facial scar) whilst Luke was stated to be visibly scarred and was literally the physically deformed means evil trope. Nico is good. Nico got mauled where’s his realistic heavily scarred face/body..oh yeah it’s not there because he’s good -_-

what makes y’all think it’s ok to joke abt taking nico’s wheelchair away / handcuffing him to lamps etc. ; idgaf if it’s for the lolz or whatever like can u get it thru ur heads that that line of thinking is never ok either in fiction or reality ????

healer character a + warrior character b trope cute yadda yadda yadda but when u start placing emphasis on (a) needing to be (b)’s cure-all / making (b) be dependent on (a) esp if they’re disabled, i think y’all need to reevaluate. there’s no need to seek a cure bc there’s nothing wrong !!!! y’all are making this so fucking weird
