I know a lot of people like to ship him with Kai because they see Lloyd as vulnerable and in need of ‘comfort’, but that’s a huge reason why it’s not okay. The problems Lloyd faces cannot be ‘cured’ with romance. He needs therapy and self-reflection. Putting him into a romance with one of his caretakers because “oh he needs cuddles” is only going to further his dependency, abandonment issues, and sets him up with poor coping skills that will be hard to undo. Believe me, I know this personally. It also sets up the caretaker into a position of power in which anything they do will have a profound effect on Lloyd, making it very easy to manipulate him without realizing it. It’s just an all-around bad idea for each person involved.

“But it’s just a kids show, why does it matter what I ship?” The fact that it’s a kids show just means you should be all the more careful. Kids use the internet. They look up art and fanfiction on the things they like. And if they see an unhealthy example of romance, they likely aren’t going to realize it’s dangerous or unhealthy. And it sticks with them.
