You deserve friends who will lift you up and make you feel unconditionally loved and supported. But in order to get there, you need to break free from the people who are dragging you down with negativity and pressure to conform to who they want you to be. “Right now, I want you to go unfollow every ‘discourse’ blog on your dashboard, or any blog that you may be hate-following. Life is already stressful enough. Seeing other people talking about how horrible the world is or how angry they are with things that are happening, whether for a good reason or not, is not good for you to be consuming on a regular basis. The world may be awful sometimes, but being in a constant state of anger and bitterness is counter-productive and only causes you to drown in those emotions. That is not to say to ignore all of the bad things happening in the world, but make sure that you don’t bite off more than you can chew, and do your best to ensure that you can name just as many good things in this world as bad, if not more. You do not need to save the world for your life to have value.”

“Never let anyone make you feel embarrassed or ashamed of your interests. It doesn’t matter how “cringy” they may be. If they make you happy, then they are good. After all, life is short, and at the end of the day, if something brings you happiness and doesn’t hurt anyone, why not embrace it and allow it to enrich your life? True friends will support you no matter what. If people leave as a result, then let them. You’re better off finding people who will truly love you anyways.”

“One thing that a lot of people forget is that it is very rare for someone to be objectively good or bad. Most of us fall on a confusing grey area where it’s up to the individual to decide whether the person’s good traits outweigh their bad ones. Of course, this seems obvious to say, but it gets a little bit harder in practice. There can be someone who you think is the kindest, sweetest, most wonderful person on the planet, and your best friend may think that that very same person is the devil incarnate. That doesn’t necessarily mean that one of you is right and one of you is wrong. It isn’t even an inherently bad thing. As long as you and your friend see eye to eye on what their positive and negative traits are, it usually doesn’t matter how you end up balancing it in the end. In exactly the same way, people will have conflicting opinions on the kind of person you are. Does that mean that what the majority of people think is the truth? Of course not. Because odds are, you are neither objectively good nor objectively bad. All that matters is that you are trying your hardest to be the best person you can be. If you can do that, then you have succeeded as a human being on this planet.”

“Sometimes, when anxious or sad thoughts appear in your head and threaten to take over, it can help to try to challenge them. Force yourself to really consider whether or not they are logically sound. Do you have reason to believe these thoughts that are appearing in your head? If not, they are likely not true, so you have no reason to take them seriously or let them in. Consider all of the logical reasons that the opposite is true. Before long, the thought will disappear, and you will have saved yourself the grief of coping with such troublesome thoughts.”
