For the record I view Taylor Swift as a real human being with flaws who sometimes makes choices that I don’t agree with. But I don’t feel obligated to “prove” that I can criticize her as a litmus test before offering any other insights or analysis on her career/body of work. And when I see other people leading with “I’m not like other swifties because I can criticize her” I find that performative and functionally useless to the conversation 90% of the time.
