Greetings! This is the Medic of Reliable Excavation Demolition speaking! I’ve been made aware that my behavior comes across as, ahem, concerning to quite a lot of people.

Are my methods unconventional? Yes. Believe me, none of you would be the first to tell me. Should I perhaps not have blown up my friend’s heart? Yes! Though, in my defense, I really didn’t think that would happen! I never wanted Heavy’s heart to be destroyed anyways — it was such a wonderful thing! So plump, so strong! And with such unclogged arteries! I grieve its loss everyday. 😔

Unfortunately the sheer power of my Übercharge was simply too much for the human cardiovascular system to handle … BUT! Such sacrifices are necessary for medical advancement! And besides, we were at WAR! A stupid and rather pointless war, granted, but it was a war nonetheless! And as my team’s Medic I sought to not only keep my comrades alive and healthy, but to take them and turn them into unkillable warriors who would DOMINATE the battlefield! Is that so wrong? I certainly don’t think so! And if you do then you’ll need to remind yourself of who the doctor here is.

Und no, just because I lost my medical license does NOT mean that I lost my medical degrees, thank you very much! I’ll have you know that I am just as educated and trained as any “ legal ” doctor out there. In fact, I’m better than die Langweiler. I’d dare you to name another practitioner of medicine who could turn men invincible and bring back the dead. Or keep a team consisting of 8 other, er, biologically interesting mercenaries alive and functional. I always do my best to ensure that my patients are at the peak of their health, though they may sabotage their health in some STUPID ways despite my many warnings. 😒

Ahem.

Regardless! Rest assured that I am a perfectly qualified medical professional who has his patients’ best interest at heart! ☺️ ( Well, the ones that I like, anyways. )

I’m new to RPing Tumblr so please forgive me, I’m not very sure how things generally work around here. Regardless, I wanted to try it out, and Medic is such a fun character to write so I decided to give it a shot!

Do not accuse Medic of being a Nazi. Medic is not a Nazi nor has he ever been one. I will not be responding to anything that even suggests it.

This blog will contain NSFW content such as gore, mentions of disturbing or gross medical stuff, graphic violence, death, corpse desecration ( Medic experiments with dead bodies, ) trauma etc. Given the nature of TF2, I feel like the violence and gore is a given so I won’t put a warning for it unless it’s particularly gruesome or grotesque, so please keep that in mind when you look through my blog and scroll to your own discretion.

Please be patient with me! I try to be as timely as I can with replies but I won’t always get them out quickly!

Please don’t come to my inbox asking Medic for legitimate advice for your problems, especially if they’re personal. You have my sympathies, but Medic himself isn’t suited to give any sort of practical help at all. He’s an unhinged character with questionable morals. Unless it concerns one of his teammates, it’s highly unlikely that you’d get a reasonable or serious response from him. Medical questions could be an exception to this ( if they’re just asked out of general curiosity and not related to any real life issue you’re experiencing with your health, ) but unlike the Medic I do not study medicine. I’ll do my research and try my best but I’m in no way an expert. You’d be better off seeking an actual medical professional. Not whatever me and Medic have going on. 😭

Please do not insert yourself or your character in an on-going roleplays that I have going on between myself and someone else without permission. This rule can vary based on circumstance, but generally I would prefer it if more story-based or serious RP threads could be kept between myself and my RP Partner, especially when I’m trying to create a narrative with them. This does not mean that you aren’t free to interact with me or them or even the both of us — you’re welcome to do so — but if I have a long thread or an interaction that is somewhat closed in nature then I would prefer to keep it self-contained so that the flow won’t be broken. This especially applies if we are both trying to ship with the same blog / character. Frankly, I don’t want to make things awkward or even competitive if both of our characters existed in the same continuity and were trying to establish a romantic relationship with the same person. We may interact outside of that, but if we aren’t making polymory the endgame then let’s keep our ship stuff separate so that we don’t get in each other’s way. It’ll save us a lot of complication and drama. All RP threads are closed unless stated otherwise.

Be respectful and have fun! I’m here to have a good time writing Medic and to hopefully give others a good time too by extension. I’d prefer to be kept out of unnecessary drama or discourse if I can, and I’d also like to avoid any problems. If you happen to have an issue with me or something that needs to be addressed, then you’re free to come into my messages so that we can discuss things and resolve them privately. Otherwise, I’m respectfully minding my own business.

EXTRA THINGS TO CONSIDER:

Mod is in her 20’s and is currently attending college. I should note that I’m no medical professional and I don’t know German, but I’ll try my best to be accurate!

Please keep in mind that I’m on the autism spectrum when you’re interacting with me, personally.

Also note that Medic isn’t necessarily a great person. He will talk about and do morally dubious things, be disturbing, apathetic, depraved and even downright evil at times. It’s par for the course for his character. That being said, I’m not portraying him as a completely heartless monster. Medic loves his doves dearly, and he does have loved ones from his past ( who he’ll most likely never see again. )

And Medic genuinely cares about his teammates in RED, in one way or another. He likes them because he thinks they’re interesting and working with them for multiple years has, inadvertently, made him fond of them. I would say that he genuinely considers them as his friends, Heavy and Engineer especially. And he takes his job as their Medic / Healer seriously, despite all the unethical experiments he does. He just has a very unconventional way of expressing his affections.

Medic is bisexual. In the past he closeted his homosexuality for the sake of self-preservation because of the times he grew up in, but he is bisexual nonetheless. On the topic of romantic relationships, I’m open to having multiple active ships at once. I keep them in separate continuities so that I can explore these dynamics without them interfering with one another, so please keep this in mind when shipping with my Medic.

Medic is a ethnically Jewish on his mother’s side but he and his immediate family have always been non-practicing. It won’t be brought up much, but I just want to make that known.

I do have an idea of what Medic’s backstory is, but I’ll hardly, if ever, bring it up.

IT WAS THAT NEEDLE OF YOURS THAT MADE ME THINK THAT AT ANY MOMENT, (LIKE IF YOU WERE TO STUFF THE WRONG SYRINGE IN YOUR CROSSBOW BY ACCIDENT!) YOU COULD PRICK ME AND I'D STOP BEING MYSELF!! I WOULD BE A SHELL OF WHO I AM!!! I DO NOT WANT TO STOP BEING AMERICAN!!

IT IS WHY I HAVE STOPPED COMING TO YOU FOR MY INJURIES ALSO! Soldier lifts up his shirt and gestures to a massive, deep purple- almost black- bruise on his side. I JUST SHOOT MYSELF AND HOPE RESPAWN TAKES CARE OF IT!

OTHERWISE, YOU'RE THE MOST TALENTED MAN OUT ON THAT FIELD, PRIVATE!! YOU CAN RAISE THE DEAD WITHOUT WIZARD MAGIC AND THAT IS TRULY SOMETHING!!!

[ There aren’t many — if any — things that can make Soldier genuinely afraid, so to have confirmation that he had somehow earned a spot among such a small list should have been oddly satisfying to Herbert. Maybe in a different circumstance it would’ve been an achievement worth his pride, especially after he’d accentuated it with genuine praise of the doctor’s capabilities. Although whatever minute fulfillment he could’ve gained from his teammate’s words was vastly out-weighed by the displeasure he feels in knowing that it became reason for his ally to avoid him. The annoyance stemmed from the fact that it prevented the doctor from performing his job, sabotaging Soldier’s health, and his viability to be a reliable protector to him on the battlefield, in the process. It negates the genuine praise that he’d received at the end … almost. He appreciates the sentiments greatly, especially when there are so few who are willing to speak of him with such flattery. Still, the situation as it stands is far from ideal. ]

[ A deep frown enters his expression at the sight of the bruise that Soldier had been hiding from him, brows furrowed to convey the depths of his dissatisfaction at the sight, which had only been amplified by his teammate’s admissions. ]

Respawn can’t solve every problem that you have. That’s why you have me.

[ He sighs to allow his exasperation some form of release. Honestly, what is he going to do with this lead-poisoned Einfaltspinsel? At the best of times Soldier’s reckless abandon and violent tendencies made him the patient that frequented his infirmary the most. At this point Herbert became used to his visits, so to see a lack of him had already given Medic his suspicions. He didn’t account for the possibility that Soldier would be deliberately avoiding him due to some newfound fear, or that the problem would be this bad. If Herbert was honest with himself, he’d admitted that it had him worried for Soldier’s wellbeing, but it also left him frustrated by how much this has sabotaged their working relationship without intention, and hearing how the other has been attempting to replace his services didn’t leave him feeling much better. ]

[ The respawn machine, however miraculous it may be, was no substitute for proper ( albeit ethically questionable ) medical treatment. If the Administrator thought otherwise then she wouldn’t have went out of her way to find a suitable doctor for the eight other menaces she employed. Based on the look of Soldier’s torso, his bandage solution was a far cry from a replacement for Herbert’s expertise. The damage done to the innards beneath must’ve been bad to produce that sort of color. ]

I only gave you the sedative to help you calm down. You were distraught back then. All that drug did was slow down your brain’s activity. It never changed who you are. It just felt that way because you’re always so … how do I put it? Intense. You simply aren’t used to being mellow, so when your mind was forced into it, it somehow gave you the impression that you’d lost your sense of self as well.

Rest assured, mein Freund, that was never the case. No amount of drugs I give you could ever make you un-American.

[ Medic tried to give some sort of consolation, and in the process his tone of voice became noticeably less grumpy to make his message more digestible. ]

If you don’t have outbursts like that again then I won’t have to give you the drug anymore.

[ He didn’t wait for Soldier’s consent before he took the hem of his shirt into his own hand to keep it lifted. His eyes subjected the bruised area to a clinical stare. ]

This post is my exploration of the reasons I don't believe Medic from TF2 is or was once a nazi. In my personal opinion, the idea of such past for our lovable doctor doesn't make any sense from everything presented in the games and in the comics. To start, I'll go through all of the evidence of Dr Ludwig being a nazi, at least from the limited research I did. Then I'll provide my reasoning for the contrary and some proof. At the end, I'll give my personal thoughts on the subject and the nuance.

Let me preface by saying that I do understand that most of the people saying that Medic is a nazi are probably joking. I just enjoy thought exercises like this and decided to give it a go. And this post isn't targeted at anyone, I hope it doesn't come across as rude or harsh since it was never my goal.

I LOVE THESE DOKTORS!!!

The Medic thought that the brightening of his features was more-so a pleasant glee that arose from the other’s fervent appreciation. It isn’t the first time Heavy’s proclaimed “I LOVE THIS DOKTOR,” which Medic would typically hear whenever he healed him, but do the sentiments of this occasion mean something different? He’s starting to wonder now.

He doesn’t miss how the Heavy is forming his own fluster, but he does him the courtesy of not giving it a mention.

“I’d say so, yes. Why, under all this love you’re giving me how could I not? Haha.”

He looks to the small bird with a bit of glee, a smile on his face, then sets his sights onto Heavy. Clearly, he likes the idea of the man keeping such an adorable winged companion around.

[ The arid terrain of DUSTBOWL had been hydrated by the blood of all who perished upon its grounds, leaking from corpses clad in RED and BLU which found themselves strewn about, left there by companies too neglectful to tend to the remains of their mercenaries. Some of them could be distinguished between Scout, Spy or Soldier, others were mutilated beyond recognition; incinerated by flame or subjected to the explosive power of drunkly-thrown bombs and American-approved rockets. ]

[ The RED Medic was not interested in test subjects that were too destroyed to be of any use, so he ignored them entirely. ]

[ He occupied the grisly scene as though he’d never been among the dead, when in fact his cadaver could be found at the bottom of the canyon and left at an unnatural angle. His radius bone had been jutted out of his left elbow, his neck snapped from the impact of falling, brought about by the blast of the BLU Soldier who finished him off after their Spy’s attempt at denying them their Übercharge. ]

[ The bodies of his friends were scattered about in a much similar manner, but he regarded it all with detached apathy. He and his colleagues have been killed plenty of times — by every method a BLU could’ve possibly used against them. Deaths for a mercenary of Team Fortress 2 were a diamond dozen; so were subjects for his research, but at the very least he could never get bored of scientific advancement, which was more than enough reason for him to return to this violent graveyard for violent men. ]

[ Currently, he could be found at THE LAST CONTROL POINT on the map, where the bodies of BLU mercenaries were lying in defeated congregation. THE RED GLOW that continued to radiate from its center served as an indication of the day’s victor. ]

[ Medic knelt beside the body of his BLU counterpart, lying just a meter or so away from the control point between the RED grain silo and the base that accompanied, who’d been backstabbed before he could make the final push. The Pyro he was pocketing not too long ago also joined his body in mutual death by Tomislav, clearly seen by the multiple ( yet precisely-put ) bullet holes in their suit. ]

[ The chest cavity of the Medic’s corpse is already opened, innards being thoroughly examined by the mercenary who lived to dig through his exposed organs. He can always rely on his counterpart to be in good health; suppose that’s why he caught his attention. No alcohol-poisoned livers, no lead-poisoned brains, no hearts or kidneys being pushed past their limits to fulfill the most ridiculous battle strategies. Morbid and perhaps egotistical as it was, the BLU Medic was one of his favorite enemies to dissect … him and his Heavy, whose corpse remained nearby, meant to be backup for his attacking allies. His body would be next. ]

[ Thankfully Spy’s signature left his victims intact, and that he’s skillful enough to amass a considerable enough of them by match’s end. In a very unintentional way, it served Medic’s organ-harvesting needs extremely well in keeping their enemies’ cadavers fresh and, more importantly, usable. ]

[ He was in the middle of manually ripping away at skeletal casing rib by rib to gain access to the heart when he picked up on a disruption in his peace, seemingly distant but present nonetheless. His senses, trained overtime to detect the undetectable, locked onto his surroundings, his merry mood only slightly abated by this disturbance. Amidst the stillness of the literally dead desert ambiance, he could hear the most subtle noise; the rushed gliding of lead onto paper, even the feel of a pair of eyes concentrating on his lone figure. He could tell when he was being watched, even in the midst of life-threatening battle and especially when left in quiet solitude. ]

[ Discreetly, he took the crossbow from his belt, careful not to make any obvious alterations to his movement, before he quickly fired a warning shot in the journalist’s direction, barely ( and deliberately ) missing him. ]

Word of advice for you: stalking a mercenary is a terrible idea.

[ He spoke with the nonchalance of a professional killer, his body turned to face the Journalist’s direction to let it be known that he now has his subject’s undivided attention. ]

Make this simple for the both of us and reveal yourself, won’t you? I’ve already had to fight a long battle today. I’d hate to have to go on a chase during my downtime too.
