Now you’re all wondering “Wait...Mozart doesn’t have a reason to go alter. Why do you insist on drawing him nonetheless?”. Maybe you are not...but who knows? Everyone must have a question or two about it, if you have been following up on my Mozart Alter art, and wondering “where the fuck is OG Mozart”.
Well, first thing’s first. Think about what he had said back in the time of Orleans. He discussed with Jeanne Ruler (not Jeanne Alter) that he hates humans because they are naturally evil, and therefore have the natural tendency to do evil. He continued to even say that he’s completely fine with what he believes, and being alone, if he cared in the very least about that, he would be drowned in self-hatred, knowing that he himself was alive, and human once. Now that, my friends, is why you often see Marie Antoinette standing side by side with him. She is the only one who can keep him in check. Their reason for being together is deeper than you think, and it’s not just because of toilet humor going out of bounds.
Without her...his darker, perhaps eviler side would likely begin to surface. When left alone, he would likely fall into the dark abyss that is his guilt and self-hatred. He needs her as mandatory emotional support. Why else would he mention being drowned in his self-hatred otherwise? That’s implying he must have felt that in some way beforehand, until he met Marie.
Now let’s talk about my backstory on my rendition of the true Mozart Alter. He is the Mozart that would care about humanity’s woes and evils. He is the embodiment of hatred towards humans, and thus has a major gripe against both Salieri and vanilla Mozart. In a way, he has a bit of a God-complex personality, believing that there can be no other who could even stand to face him. But...his main reason for existing in the first place in my story is a bit more direct. He hates vanilla Mozart, but he hates Salieri even more. Even wanting to kill him. That is his own goal. To kill Salieri with his own bare hands. Does that sound familiar to you? It’s Salieri’s own goal, reversed onto himself. Like playing a reverse card in UNO. Or, in meme terms:
Salieri: “I will kill you”
Mozart Alter: “No, u.”
For one, this is the Mozart that believes in the rumors of Salieri having poisoned him, and takes it to the extreme. It is further supported by the real Mozart in our world, who suspected himself that he was poisoned towards the end of his life.
Now think about it even further. These rumors and speculations came from human lips. Thus bringing you back to his main human-hating personality. Salieri is the twisted embodiment of those human rumors-- his powers dependent on those rumors, and is therefore Mozart Alter’s biggest thorn in the side.
He hates Mozart because of his own human qualities. Mozart Alter’s belief of himself is that he is pure, and untainted by “human filth”, justifying his own role as an “angel of death”, or simply, “Death’s Conductor.” and so seeks to “cleanse” Mozart himself, because he sees him as a demon to be exorcised utterly. He represents Mozart’s own self-hatred on that sense.
Plus, when you think about his real life in detail...it was not all sunshine and smiles. Bouts of depression was common within Mozart’s life, with money troubles, and tension between him and his father for most of his life, up until Leopold’s passing. Instead of accepting that the world made him the way he was in life (supported by the quote he spoke himself, “You are what the world makes of you.”), he as an Avenger servant looks for a way to punish humanity for making him the way he was. Making him the same as any other imperfect human in life.
Mozart Alter, ultimately, is the embodiment of both Salieri’s and Mozart’s guilt and hatred, combined. Suddenly, his class being Avenger befits him. Quite a violent one at that. Likely stronger than the both of them, even, because he is fueled by their own self-hatred, and humanity’s pride and other evils.
It doesn’t just end there. You’re probably now wondering “How would Marie Antoinette factor with Mozart Alter?”
Well, let’s just say he could care less about Marie Antoinette. He has no intimate feelings for Marie Antoinette, but would at least sympathize with her own feelings about humans being filthy and imperfect. Other than that though, he despises the connection between Marie and Mozart, believing that Marie’s support for Mozart is a sign of weakness on her part. He doesn’t despise Marie herself, but rather the connection between her and vanilla Mozart, to rephrase it better.
“Come join me, if you truly believe humans need to learn their place. Abandon the humanity which you hold onto by the thread that is the other me.” Certainly, one with a Lawful Evil alignment would think that way. Maybe borderline Chaotic Evil, if magnified enough.
Boom. Right there, Marie Alter becomes a possibility.
Now my point? FGO needs to have a Mozart Alter (and maybe Marie Alter) soon, whether they may like it or not. So many things in the background factor into the possibility that they should appear later in FGO sooner or later.
