Hi.. I have two hermit crabs Josh and Bryan. Josh passed away last night and i just found him.. i gave them everything and i spent over $90 on them. i'm so confused on why he passed away.. i did tons of research. he didn't move much when i first got him and yesterday he lost a leg. today i smelled something fishy and found him limp in his shell... if there is anything you guys can do to help me figure out if it was my fault, or help me keep Bryan alive i would be so grateful.. thank you.
How long have you had them? Sometimes if they're not taken care of properly at pet stores they just don't make it. I had one hermit crab that was like yours when I got him. He didn't move very much and he only made it a couple days past when I took him home. Hermit crabs are tough little guys, so if you are doing everything right and have done all your research, I would say he just couldn't recover. Don't let this bring you down, sometimes things happen. I would recommend getting another hermit crab but when you are picking one out, try and find an active one. It's okay if they hide from you when you pick them up, but if they aren't moving, something is wrong. They drop limbs when stressed, so if he was sick when you got him the chances are real good that he just couldn't make the move. Hope this helps! If you have had them for a while, you could describe your conditions to me and I can try and help that way too.
