Unpopular take for a veteran player: New players coming in expecting there'll be a rich backstory behind the set that they might be interested in is a *good* thing for Magic as an IP.

They've asked about the story behind the set! Back in the OG Lorwyn days almost no-one did that! Not one player in 8 could tell you what the Great Aurora was, not least because they didn't make a card for this key story event for another decade

Stop waggling your hands in the air and tell them about Oona vs Maralen. Say how great it is that Lorwyn gets the full Jim Henson this time around rather than just alluding to it. Tell them about that bastard Oko, and his habit of turning people into elks!

It has never been *easier* to introduce new players to the idea that Magic Sets have backstory, and that it's cool and good, and just as fun to read about as old Turtles comics, which are also cool and good.
