if you look at his early drafts of the script it reads like a weird fanfiction where leia is 14 years old and luke is some weird pedophile, plus theres a totally extraneous scene where luke walks into a shop and sees a young 14-year-ish old girl sitting on the shopkeeps lap and then goes and just hangs out with his cool best friend for a bit completely unrelated the plot

lucas’ lines of dialogue were so bad that harrison ford had to improvise a crazy amount of shit on set because the scripts he was handed were stilted horrible tongue twisters that no human being could or would ever want to speak

later when talking about the terrible dialogue in the film, lucas said he made it intentionally bad so that the film would feel timeless (???)

basically the actors and lucas’ wife marcia saved that poor piece of crap film lucas is a beardy old hack with an uncomfortable thing for 14-year-olds
