It sounds like a simple question.

But when you only have sixty seconds, suddenly you have to decide what really matters.

This was his answer.

Islam does not teach that every person is born carrying Adam’s guilt.

According to the Qur’an, Adam and Eve made a mistake, recognized their wrongdoing, repented directly to God, and were forgiven.

Islam therefore distinguishes between two things:

The consequences of another person’s actions can affect us.

The moral guilt of another person’s actions cannot be inherited by us.

Every child begins life free from inherited guilt, and every person is responsible for their own choices.

This belief also shapes the Islamic understanding of forgiveness and Jesus. Muslims honor Jesus as the Messiah and a prophet, but they do not believe that God required his sacrifice in order to forgive Adam’s descendants.

The Qur’an was revealed more than 1,400 years ago, yet its verses repeatedly invite humanity to observe the universe, reflect on creation, and think deeply about the natural world.

Today, some Qur’anic passages are discussed in connection with discoveries about the cosmos, the expansion of the universe, celestial motion, and other areas of science.

But the important question is not simply:

“Can we find modern science in an ancient text?”

The better questions are:

What does the Qur’an actually say? How were these verses understood? Are the comparisons with modern science fair? Where should we be careful not to exaggerate?
