I Do Not Support Vivziepop

i think if i were to reimagine both shows, i'd have to start with the worldbuilding as an absolute whole; i find it easier to start with that then the characters, pluuuuuss it makes things feel more intertwined between both stories/worlds

i want to focus primarily on hell before even starting on heaven, just to get a basic feel of that world before i tackle anything beyond that LOL

uhhh for the most part the story of how hell came to be is perhaps in line with the show (lucifer and lilith are responsible for creating hell), but instead of lucifer being a misunderstood de facto good guy, he was misunderstood in his reasons for creating things. in most biblical mythos, lucifer was banished and punished for trying to usurp god. he sought to become god, iirc because he wanted to be worshiped and praised. this pride was ultimately his undoing!

i like to think lucifer's creations were his attempts at creating his own adam and eve, his own beings to praise and revere him. the elder angels (who.. i assume in canon are like.. archangels or seraphim or something idk) tried to discourage him from this, even warning god of such things, but ultimately lucifer was god's favorite angel. i can see this being very similar to what happened in warhammer 40k with the horus heresay, where horus was the emperor's favorite son but ultimately caused the worst betrayal to the galaxy. (perhaps thats what such a story is based on? hehe but this is a hazbin blog not a warhammer blog...)

lucifer would go on to amass supporters for his coup of the heavenly 'throne', the angels in support of him going on to become the ars goetia upon their fall. lucifer's fall was both monumental but unceremonious. biblical scripture describe lucifer's fall as like "lightning", preceded by a battle between lucifer and his allies and micheal and his heavenly forces.

when lucifer and his allies fell into the pits of the earth, from the light of heaven, i can easily see their heavenly forms twisting from the darkness within them and around them. the most notable of his supporters, the ars goetia and the demonic princes of sin, bore the most terrible forms...

so! now i ponder when the hierarchy comes into place. i feel it came into being perhaps a decade or even a century following the fallen angels roaming the underworld. in my mind time is very difficult to discern both in heaven and in hell; it could have been a year or it could have been eons- nobody can exactly tell... anyhow, the hierarchy was set in place either by the ars goetia and lucifer, a way to promote power to lucifer. those most loyal to him (i.e those who sucked up to him the most) would be rewarded with power and influence

now, powerscaling... itd be easy to say that magic is a main factor of determining a demon's power, but i feel influence and societal/political power also plays into that, granting a demon tangible power... still working on that though, will iron out the details later

the overall hierarchy is as follows:

Lucifer

The Demonic Princes (Beelzebub, Satan, Mammon, etc)

The Ars Goetia

Hellborn

Sinners

in my mind's eye, i imagine there are inner-hierarchies between the established five, a pecking order that suppresses certain people from getting "too far ahead". if heaven represents harmony, peace, and tranquility, then hell represents oppression, misery, and chaos. both forces become interwoven in the cosmic powers or uhh something like that LOL...

i'd write more but i fear i'd be rambling a little too much.. these ideals will be refined later, hopefully not too later though i hope! i love worldbuilding and refining concepts, so with this bit of writing established i hope to get my ideas for the characters off their feet :]

Charlie Lightbringer (she/they)

or flamebearer? wobbly hand gesture. not entirely sold on her surname quite yet!

meant to resemble a porcelain doll combined with ungulate (sheep, goat, etc) features with some demonic influences. i wanted to try designing hazbin characters canon-adjacent with my own influence; these designs are very experimental!

gave her she/they pronouns because it just spoke to me. in world, people probably default to calling her "she", but she also finds being called "they" agreeable!

more mature in character despite her cutesy appearance. shes also more calculating than she lets on; being ~200 years old, she's had centuries to learn and grow. i find canon ignoring that a massive disservice... i get she was raised sheltered but cmon now.

speaking of sheltered! for the first years of their life (which.. by our standards would be ~20 years, hell time is wonky), they spent much of it in the security of the royal family's estate and social circles. they only really began to branch out following an event with their ex-betrothed, seviathan. (following in stead of lucifer and lilith, powerful demons betroth themselves and their young)

as for their family, i imagine lilith was more authoritative than lucifer, who was more permissive with them. charlie was given all the delights a young demon heir could want, but lucifer's negligent rule and lilith being forced to pick up her husband's slack no doubt led to unrest within the royal house. much like her mother, i can see charlie trying to maintain the family's image.

before her "happy hotel" project, i like to think charlie was respected a bit more by hell's hellborn- especially the noble caste and the embodiments of the sins. among the sinners though, she was VERY unpopular.

im still trying to figure out the logistics, but charlie's "happy hotel" project is less of a redemption project, and more her trying to experiment with bringing paradise to hell. tales of her father's attempt to usurp god led her to discover stories of the garden of eden. she was enchanted by it, and now seeks to bring it to hell. most of hell brush the project off as just a passing fascination.

charlie recruits both sinners AND hellborn (because if she wants to help hell youd think she'd care about both LOL) into her project. most just take it as a means to mooch off of them, granted its very easy room and board, and charlie doesnt appear to have much of a problem with it. (she does. but, like always, they simply grin and bear it.)

also adding on here that charlie and vaggie ARE NOT!!! dating in my rewrite. maybe they could in future installments, but they dont start off romantically involved. charlie is very focused on her project at the moment, and vaggie is.. vaggie. (i promise i'll give her a new name i just gotta search for one....)

also some minor miscellaneous notes:

betrothals in hell are considered an antiquated but useful practice. lilith and lucifer didn't form their union out of complete love; they care about each other sure, but their unholy matrimony was mostly used to have a united front (and to bastardize the sanctity of marriage in heaven). other noble demons saw this as a means of gaining influence and strength, so betrothals became commonplace enough to still be employed in hell. marriage is more uncommon; betrothals are recognized as like.. more "legally" binding (hell in my rewrite focuses a lot of suffering through bureaucracy, so law and justice exists, albeit.. very flawed), marriage is seen more as amusement, but the vows within mean a lot to some demons

seviathan is charlie's ex-betrothed: their parents wanted to marry them more-so because seviathan's family thought itd be a massive benefit to marry into hell's royal family. their relationship was short-lived and very awkward, with a mutual break-up ensuing. charlie's parents don't hold this against her at all, lilith because.. shes lilith LOL. and lucifer because he never really saw seviathan's family as equal to his... he was just willing to entertain the idea, tbh
