I kept it casual for tonight’s open mic. This shirt was an excellent choice. I performed a cover, and performed the piece I wrote about last summer. The chorus had been in my head since the very beginning of everything. I sang it on that morning as I was biking to work on no sleep. I started putting everything together for last month, but didn’t get it finished. So on Friday, I smoked half of a CBD preroll and finish writing the piece. It was pretty raw. I went to the Y for a swim and came back and edited it and left it alone until today. I did the final draft and ran through it for tonight. I smoked the other half of my preroll on the way to the coffee shop. Man, I was so scared, I said a quick prayer asking God for strength and to give me a sign if it wasn’t time to perform this piece yet. When I got up I started and my nerves lost the chord progression for the verses. My paper blew off the stand and I fixed it, and just like that, the chord progression came back and I did the piece. It was a success!!! I got the whole place to sing, “glitter and potatoes are troubling and disturbing”, got complimented by a fellow performer that I was way more entertaining than the professional comedian she saw recently, and I got a shout out from a performer on stage that my piece was the most memorable thing of the night. Besides being destructive I cooked for the first time this week and even experimented with roasting sweet potatoes.
