Star Crossed, my two-player game of forbidden love, is now available for everyone, everywhere! Thank you so much to everyone who made this dream come true.Â
Artist-in-Residence Alex Roberts!
We’ll have a new resident artist coming to stay for a few weeks this January! We hope you’ll have a chance to meet Alex Roberts while she is here and learn about her incredible work. Alex is a game designer and reporter approaching the live action roleplaying game world from all angles. Check out her recent games Starcrossed and For The Queen, and her podcast Backstory! (May we suggest Albert’s episode? ;)
Come meet Alex and playtest some of her new storytelling games on Sunday, January 13th. The games touch on topics of cozy community interaction! You can join for one or both games; we’ll play a session at 1pm and another at 3pm. See this event page for more details, feel free to invite others, and please RSVP there!
Also, let us know if you wanna stop by to share a meal or co-work together while Alex is here in January.
See you soon, Mt. Caz!Â
My new super-accessible, card-based storytelling game is going to be published next year by Evil Hat Productions! I am so stoked to share it with everyone!!! Click here to learn more about For the Queen!

Is For the Queen publicly available?
Not yet. I’ll next be running it at Big Bad Con in October, and by then I’ll probably have made some exciting announcements.Â
I recommend you sign up for this newsletter thing if you super duper don’t want to miss out on it: http://eepurl.com/dzxosrÂ
I’m the ~Guest of Honour~ at Ropecon, a convention I once only dreamed of going to. Life is wild. If you’re in or near Helsinki, Finland, next weekend, come here me give a long and meandering talk about making Star Crossed and tearing down the concept of “design.” It’ll be cool.Â
The Star Crossed Kickstarter went live AND funded before I could even post about it! The support has been amazing!!!Â
If we can make it to $30,000 (we’re around $23k right now!) then I get to release a special mini-series of podcast episodes: Star Crossed Story Time, where playtesters of the game tell their sweet stories of forbidden love. These are going to be GOOD.Â
Oh and YES that is Jess Fink’s amazing artwork.Â
A wonderful interview to get you hype for tomorrow’s Kickstarter launch! (That’s right friends - you can back Star Crossed on Kickstarter on April 10th!) We also talk about trying larp, iterative game design, and rolling down the line.
Steffie de Vaan and I wrote this supplement to Liz Chaipraditkul’s WITCH: Fated Souls, a dark fantasy RPG where you play a member of the Fated – a witch or warlock who has sold their soul to a demon for power. WITCH rules, and this is a great resource for anyone running a modern-world fantasy campaign. I wrote about the snake orgy pits of Manitoba. Nothin’ witchier than that.

Liz Chaipraditkul is an independent RPG publishing badass, and a game designer with some seriously great advice. I learned a lot during this interview. Also we talked about Hello Kitty and creepy dolls and, you know, giggle a lot. Enjoy <3Â
I did another interview on the Bully Pulpit Games blog! It was great to chat with Jennifer about her work adapting the retail model into an intentional community space. Check it out!
Game designer and interactive media writer Clio Yun-su Davis talks podcasting, immersive theatre, and the beauty of K-Pop.
Tension is now Star Crossed.Â
Develop characters who are irresistibly drawn to each other.
Build a world that keeps them apart.
Pull from the tower to find out what happens.
Star Crossed is a two-player game about really, really wanting to–when you really, really can’t.
Coming to Kickstarter April 10th
I was on Daniel Kwan’s podcast Curiosity in Focus recently, talking about romantic games, two-player games, and designing consent. You can listen to it here.Â
