Unicorn Crestfish (Eumecichthys fiski)
Also known as the unicornfish, the unicorn crestfish is a rare species of crestfish that likely has a worldwide distribution but has only been seen offshore of Kalk Bay in South Africa. They have also been reported in the Sea of Japan, Florida, Hawaii, Mexico and India.
Unicornfish inhabit the bathypelagic zone and are typically seen at depths of around 3,000 ft. Like a couple other lampriform genera members of Eumecichthys possess an ink tube which allows them expel a black fluid from their cloaca in defense. Unicorn crestfish are very rare and much is still unknown about their biology and ecology.

tbh at this point my mutuals could start blogging exclusively about pine cones and I still wouldn’t unfollow
But yo that would be really cool. Like, if someone knew enough about pine cones to fill an entire blog with nothing but that? That’s some impressive nature geekery and I am all about that.
This is also a good time to appreciate @tropiquatic and @mad-hare for filling my dash with cool information about fish and aquariums, which I otherwise would never have sought out. I’m learning so much!
Awh! I’m glad you enjoy my blog :’) it means a lot to me.
More basil cuteness
Me: gee I'm gonna have to move soon damn gonna have to make arrangements to smuggle my pets in to my new apartment
Parent: good thing you have so few pets and haven't acquired any more since last time we spoke of this
Me: *sweats nervously*

Video by Alix Harvey, head aquarist at the Marine Biological Association of the UK
“Common cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis, striking at 120fps”
Cuttlefish have ten tentacles - eight normal ones, and two longer that function (as seen here) as striking weapons to grab and ensnare prey.
My fish sometimes
Rin was very interested in Kuro, though I don’t think he’s too happy about sharing his space
Here are some bettas to drown out the fishblr drama
This handsome fellow is Creature, my northern blue tongue skink! I bought Creature from a breeder back in July of 2015, just as a tiny baby! He’s about 7 months old right now, and almost 20 inches long. He’s a bit porky (my fault, but feeding these guys is so much fun, they eat everything!) so he’s on a diet, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to eat anything that smells tasty when he’s crawling around on my floor.

My betta, Wilhelm. Finally got around to drawing him since his markings are much more complex than my old fish, Mortimer who was just red with a few blue dots xDD
Christmas moss
everywhere; on the filter, in the gravel, stuck to the intake, floating around FREE ME FROM THIS
Rin was feeling particularly grouchy yesterday
Rin is such a gorgeous fish I love seeing pictures of him on my dash
Oh Fishblr…
You have no idea how embarrassed I feel posting this. But, in taking care of all my boys these past few months, I’ve learned that I just don’t have the resources to care for so many fish. I wish I didn’t have to do this. Im going to talk to my parents, because I’m sure they’ll want a say in it despite the fact they’re my fish, but I am going to start looking for new homes for two of my boys, Hades and Honeydew. Be warned, these fish are not in perfect health.. Which is part of how I know they need a new home. Hades is developing finrot, although it’s not bad.. And Honeydew.. Well.. He’s bad. I just don’t know how else to care for him. He has major fin rot, and is getting thin. I’ve tried everything within my skill set. I think he needs someone more skilled with fish to pull him back from this. If anyone is interested, please message me by the end of the week. Or at least, please reblog this. I am looking for someone near Fullerton, in California. I am willing to drive as far as 50 miles out in any direction. These fish do not come with set ups, unfortunately. One I want to keep as an isolation tank, and the other is part of a divided with a fish I don’t want to give away. If you want to take them, please send proof of a good set up. I really, really hate to do this. I feel ashamed. But knowing my budget, and my time for the next semester, I cannot care for 6 fish. Please spread word.
If you can ship, I could possibly take one of them!
Meet Pavo, my curious little leopard gecko! Pavo is not a fan of posing for the camera, and he prefers to spend his time scampering around on my floor and finding places to hide.

Wilhelm in the sunlight! Just moved back into my dorm and him and Chrome (mystery snail) are doing great c:
So one of my Bettas gets stressed and tail-bites if he’s left alone too long. Since I have to go to class all day, I leave my laptop running a “cafe in the rain” white noise generator and a playlist of colorful animated screensavers. He actually does settle down and watch. What a dweeb.
