We were on a late night run to the store and stopped by the 5 peso toy machines He stared intently and decided on one We were rewarded with a pod with two rings in it, a small blue one with silver in the middle, and a larger, similar ring in pink As he was choosing this song played in the background, and it brought me back to sad memories, memories you tend to forget And I just teared up, right there in that tender moment we were sharing He held me while the song ended, in an empty store on a late night run And reminded me those times were over And it felt true, and it was all I needed to hear As we drove back home he hummed the song, in a soft, quiet way I hummed along, and held his hand
