Pacifist Ending: It’s an awkward and tenuous truce for the sake of peaceful existence with Frisk. Both love the little bugger and the last thing either of them want to do is stress them out just because they have Spectral Doomsday attached to them at all times. Chara’s a chatterbox and they always try to strike up friendly conversation with Sans! Even if they end up having a completely one-sided conversation with the guy, they chatter on until Sans eventually starts responding to their surprise, and that’s where the real flight begins to take off. 

It’s really shaky and there’s a lot of awkward tension and an eventual lil heart-to-heart that leads to positive progress. Eventually they just become contented acquaintances with awkward history and that definitely looms, it’s not going anyway anytime soon.. but, Sans can start to see the uneasiness in Chara when the discussion of Reset is brought up. That might lead to him starting to really believe them when they say they do not enjoy taking the genocide route, especially seeing as they’re not constantly egging Frisk on to do sincerely bad things!

It’d take a long time, but the end goal is Sans seeing that Chara’s as much a victim of circumstance as Frisk when it comes to the whims of their unseen player --- on a whole different level. They have no control over what happens! Their good will that’s so tightly tied to Frisk due to them being Chara’s literal living heart and emotions is tarnished. 

It’s just.. really complicated. But if there’s one thing that silly boneman can do, I believe it’s understand complexity. And when he realizes that, it might be the beginnings of a true and genuine friendship between them, and perhaps a slightly different point of view when a reset happens and he once again meets Chara in the Judgement Hall. He now knows this is not who they truly are ; they’re just a reincarnated dead kid literally left with no humanity, soul or conscious. A “demon”.

This is not to say that Sans has to forgive them or anything, because that dude was hurt bad and he had to witness a lot of awful things due to the Chara run, and that association is probably gonna always stick, and he’s valid to that, but he’ll just.. understand. Or at least understand enough. 

AND FROM THAT THEY CAN BOND OVER THEIR LOVE OF PUNS AND PAL AROUND AND GIVE FRISK A FULL PEACE OF MIND LOL. “yaaaay my friends dont hate each other anymore 8);;;”

tl;dr: EVENTUALLY SANS GETS TO BOND WITH SPOOKY KID AFTER TONS OF ONE-SIDED CONVOS AND FINDS OUT THE DEEPER TRUTH ABOUT FRISK AND HOW THEY’RE CONNECTED AND WHY THINGS HAPPENED AS THEY DID IN THE BAD TIME ROUND since I imagine maybe he’d want some answers and he knows Chara’s just as aware of everything as he is.
