Anyway my childhood me is going to be thrilled but this adult Ravenclaw, bisexual, Hispanic and jewish-descent grown up is going to LOVE it just as much!

Fandoms have always been beautiful. Something to be proud of. When I was growing up, all of us misfits would look to a fandom and feel at home. That was the beauty of Star Wars, of Harry Potter, of the Lord of the Rings or Star Trek. You found people like you, before there was social media, people who loved you just as you were, and same happened at places like ComicCon. Many people met their partners for life in those fandoms, and friends for life. And there was nothing sad about it just like there isn't today. I could tell you my horoscope, and it wouldn't define me better than saying I'm a Ravenclaw. Because saying I'm a Ravenclaw says that I'm a nerd, that I love sitting by the fireplace reading, that I don't feel so comfortable in loud clubs with people dancing, that I feel better in a library or a book shop. It tells you I value truth and knowledge. It tells you that I grew up reading Harry Potter, curled-up on the sofa. Because I hardly had friends, you know? Like many people here, like all of us who started Tumblr, I couldn't fit in anywhere. But I fit in in Harry Potter. I became friends with Harry, Ron and Hermione. They taught me what true friendship looks like, so I'd never settle with anything less. They taught me about bravery, standing up for what you believe it, and how love looks like. And when my father, who used to read the books with me, got ill, I still had Hogwarts. My world was dark, sad and full of death and pain. But Hogwarts was magical, wondrous, full of light and friendship. And I didn't feel alone there. And when I father died, I knew wherever he was, it'd be magical and better than this. That perhaps it'd be like the magical world we both adored. I got depressed without my Dad, and I sunk my head in the books, because that's what Ravenclaws do. You find a good book, you try to forget the things that hurt. So I did. And I read about depression, mental health, and between the things I went on to study there was psychology. And that helped me. That kept me alive and going and strong. So yeah I'm proud I am, like my Dad was, a Ravenclaw. That I will always have books to save me when I'm drowning. And that because of who I am in my heart, I found ways to deal with shit and make it and survive.
