Akechi smothered the remaining small embers flexing what had remained of his hand visibly illuminated. He leaned back into his chair considering his words. “I considered what all of you had to say” he admitted. “I lost most of my persona” he stated giving some hint that he was not completely alone.

He pulled his phone from his pocket entertaining the idea of taking Ren to mementos—a palace created by a man living in the same complex. He leaned against his chair thumbing through his emails from other employers asking him to investigate many different type of cases.

“It doesn’t strike me odd that you no longer go to that world” he stated while not looking up. “Perhaps you simply lost your fighting spirit… or perhaps it is because all of your friends left you” his eye glanced up from his phone to study Ren’s expression.

         ren was stunned. ‘ most ‘ of his persona ? did that mean -- akechi ... still had a bit of his persona ? various feelings flooded the former phantom thief, varying from betrayal ( arsene promised he’d never leave ) to disgust ( akechi was probably lying ) to despair ( his persona would have never left ;; they made a vow, and so if he didn’t come there was a definitive reason for it ) .

         his dark eyes narrowed as he watched the other male in front of him. the way he moved his hand was odd, until ren realized that he was missing most of it. his eyes widened -- that must have been why he was wincing when the door opened, and twitching so strangely. “ you ... “

        akechi had some real nerve, saying something like that to him. after all, he was the one who had started killing people in the metaverse ;; there was no way that he’d have lost his fighting spirit. it was as if the notebook in his pocket burned him at the very thought -- the meticulous care that the dark - haired boy kept names drove people mad with curiosity. ‘ what’s inside that book ? ‘ they’d ask, but no one would ever know or understand.

                          except, he begrudgingly admitted, the man in front of him.

        “ my friends did not leave me. “ he finally said, after a moment of heavy, uncomfortable silence. “ things change in life, akechi -- people go their own ways. we’re still in touch, just ... “ his eyes slid down to the phone that he was holding, widening at what he saw on the screen. 

        he leapt up out of the chair, crossing the room in a few quick strides.

"Does the pain ever go away?"

"You're not broken; nobody's broken. You're just hurt is all."

"I know you, and I know that you're strong enough to overcome this."

"Thank you for being patient with me, even when it wasn't easy."

"It's not hard to take care of someone you love."

"You will always have a home with me."

"Pain goes away in time. When the pain fades, you'll still be here, ready to start again."

"I'm scared. I don't like to tell people, but I am so, So goddamn scared."

"I still see it every time I close my eyes."

"Has the therapy been helping any?"

"I hate this! I hate that I have to take pills just to function, and that everyone thinks I should just get over it!"
