When the Healer Dies

Hello everyone!

So, I am making a pretty big decision regarding my book. That decision is to take it off sale and rework the story. We've been analyzing literature in school recently, and doing so has made me realize that I don't want this to be just a one-and-done passion project.

I want WtHD to be a story worthy of analysis, of scrutiny. I want it to hold up to different interpretations and theories. I want some depth and beauty in this book, and I'm going to make it that way.

I'm still very young. I have time, and I really want to give my characters what they deserve. I want them to be nuanced and full of life, not cardboard cutouts.

Zero can't use a smartphone camera because it futzes out around him. Other digital and traditional cameras work just fine. His first job in the human world is also at a Hot Topic. Nobody there knows his name, he didn't submit an application or do any interviews, but he's on the payroll and brings cupcakes in for special occasions so no one really cares.

Rowan would have played lacrosse in HS if his grades were high enough to play a sport. He got a reputation in the pseudo-military/boarding school for carrying around a bag of goldfish snack crackers and tossing them at anyone who looked sad. He's tried weed (at least once) and didn't keep doing it because he didn't like the smell. He gets tattoos (a half sleeve) and all of them are spell circles that summon household objects he keeps losing. He messed up a spell once and now, instead of summoning a pair of socks, one tattoo summons Alta's cat, Socks.

Alta has a cat named Socks. Sofia found him when Alta was missing in a dumpster behind a 7-11 when she was going to get a burrito after working a 12-hour shift. He's not even a tuxedo cat (he's all gray) but she found him gnawing on a pair of socks so she was just like "alright." Alta speedruns a lot of games, and she's pretty good at it. Like concerningly good. She also had an emo/scene phase when she was 12 or 13, and she still has some black lipstick and fingerless fishnet gloves tucked away in a drawer somewhere.

and then he has to take this cheeseburger, who he is tasked with protecting and NOT EATING, to the Dimension That Makes You Really Want To Eat Burger

and then this cheeseburger isn’t like. a normal mcdonald’s burger, it’s like the burger from the advertisements that’s uncannily perfect looking. and he has the ability to make the cheeseburger come to him voluntarily and ask to be eaten

Okay maybe this metaphor isn’t holding up but THE POINT IS
