Thinking so so hard ab not just the trauma of tates false arrest but also the fact that he finds out his best friend is dead because he's being accused of killing her. Thinking ab them finding fayes body and how caspian confirms its her despite the fact her body is a bit deteriorated. Thinking ab how the cops are clearly not on tates side and are punishing him for trying to stand up to them and im thinking so hard ab them showing him photos of fayes body to try to coax a 'confession' out of him and how he would be. Physically sick after seeing it bc of how intense it is and also bc of it being one of the very few people hes close to who supports him

#a lot of the time its. difficult to see the signs in tate #both because he has put so much time and work into therapy and healing and because he still actively works to hide his trauma #when things get really bad mentally is when hes most likely to really slip and for things to be more obvious #hes always had snacks all over the place as a way to compensate for the years where he never knew when his next meal would be #but when hes doing really badly mentally benji will find food hidden everywhere and tate gets super protective of it #hes always done horribly with small spaces ever since being arrested and accused of murder and all that #and generally if a door or window is open small rooms don't worry him to much #but if he gets locked in a small room he. panics a Lot #he dealt with a Lot of abuse from the police as well and so he goes out of his way to avoid cops #and will get very tense at the sight of a cop car or sound of a siren. will go really quiet and gets jumpy and defensive if touched #he doesn't tell benji about the cop stuff until hes Older so theres a span of years where he carried it on his own #because if he couldn't tell benji he didnt want to breach it in therapy #so there was a long time of guilt and shame about it and in that time especially tate could be jumpy with touch #hes pretty quick to turn to violence especially in self defense #but also if the circumstances are right it can terrify him and make him run and hide #he never gets used to. the feeling of being with benji and having someone who loves him #i think its a little uncomfortable for him. hes scared to lose it #when he finally tells benji about the cop stuff he thinks benjis gonna get mad and leave him. he thinks benji will see it the way he does #because tate sees it as cheating when it very much was not like that at all and was something forced upon him #but he tells benji and benji holds him and supports him and thanks him for telling him. he is gentle and soft #and tate is lost and doesnt understand why he isnt angry #so much of tate is just afraid of losing all the progress hes made. terrified to end up the way he was #and he eats so fast as well as if someone will take it away if hes not quick enough #i love tate i love him growing to heal and move past his trauma even if there is a little bit of lingering stuff #there always will be and hes accepted that but hes grown so much and is trying to be proud of himself for it
