Hermit Mailbox Ask Universe: The Masterpost!
the hermit mailbox universe (started by joel moddie, thank you joel moddie we all say) has been gradually growing since it started and in just some months, we've exceeded 50+ mailboxes. this is far bigger than anyone's expected and with so many of us, things can get messy and overwhelming for everyone involved. so here's a master post to help navigate!for both new and current members lol.
the in-character universe tag: #hermit mailbox ask universe. if you want to avoid seeing any of us in a character's tag, blacklisting this one might save you the trouble of blocking one by one.
canon character mailboxes.
extended universe/original character mailboxes.
how does one make a mailbox? is there a form? what about x character? original characters?
you don't need to ask to make mailboxes. the only exception to this is if you intend on making a mailbox for a canon character's alternate persona: unless you've contact the og mod to get the green light, please do not make a mailbox for alternate variations of a character already filled. more often than not, they write for them as well or incorporated them into their lore. original characters are welcome.
please do not make mailboxes for problematic creators. if you're wondering 'hm does x count?' chances are yes and to keep the community comfortable for everyone involved, there are no exceptions to this.
ask box? roleplay blog? what's all this lore doing here? where'd all this fog come from?
some of us have gotten invested in building lore for our cubitos. that said, you can involve yourself as much or as little as you want. some of us have maintained being just ask blogs, while others lean more into the roleplay aspect and there's no wrong way to do it! be as casual as you want to be about it, we're all just silly people with our silly blogs.
now this one is kinda important so please read!
with so many of us, it's very easy to accidently step on someone's toes. the best way to avoid that is just communicating with each other.
if you have a question for another mod, ask it. if you want to explore a ship with someone, ask them how they feel about it before assuming characters are together. if you want to participate in plot in a way that'll change its outcome, make sure to let all parties know.
other things that i'll mention just as a reminder: always read people's pins: some canon characters would prefer not to interact with original characters, or some blogs have ships preferences. keep your own pin up to date! also if you're wondering if something should have a trigger tag, it's better to be safe than sorry and tag it however you feel necessary.
