you don't know me | hayley and eleanora
"Well, Iâm unsure of how much you know about me.. but all I know about my âfamilyâ is that I was adopted by Jeanine.. Iâve unfortunately never quite looked into it. I suppose I never felt the need, especially after she.." her voice faded away and she looked down into the table for a moment. "After she died. Youâre right. I donât really want to think about my family right now.. Iâm doing just fine on my own," Nora admitted. She didnât see a point in trying to keep the truth away from Hayley, she seemed like a genuine and nice girl. "But.. I can only begin to imagine what youâve gone through to find me.. I mean, being Dauntless and all.. and research.. sometimes doesnât go together," she smiled, trying to poke fun.
"Iâm going to have to be slightly realistic, now, though.. and ask you if you actually have any legitimate proof of us being sisters. If you donât, we could probably just get our DNAs tested or something like that. I mean, as you said.. itâs very out of the blue.." She didnât want to doubt, though. She wanted to just accept this story and get her family back. She wasnât lying when she said that sheâd been just fine on her own, but she had been feeling very lonely and she was missing having someone around the house that she knew she could trust because of the blood bond. This wasnât always the case with all families, she knew that, but she felt like that was the case with her and Jeanine. Or.. thatâs what she wanted to feel. "And Iâm just wondering.. how much you know about me⌠exactly,â she added. She was curious about this girl too, she wanted to know more about her and how her life had been up until this point, but she knew that could probably be a little bit too much to ask as of right now so she remained silent.
I'm doing just fine on my own. Hayley thought that might be how she'd react to the news. Hell, if some stranger had come up to her and told her they were family then she'd probably shut them down in seconds. She supposed she should count herself lucky that Eleanora wasn't doing the same, at least she was nice about it. Hayley realised the girl was trying to joke with her, and she cracked an amused smile. If the comment had come from any other Erudite, she would have rolled her eyes and shut them down but amusement was all she felt here. And it warmed her that she seemed to want to make her feel comfortable.Â
"I'll do any tests you want," she told her, nodding. "I don't have concrete proof either so if you're willing to find out if this is true... then so am I." Hayley frowned in thought, the full realisation that this girl was Jeanine Matthews' daughter setting in. She probably had more access to Erudite files than most other people in her faction. Hayley wondered if they could use that to their advantage. "Is there any way you could get access to your file? Or even my file? That would have something in it about all of this, right? I don't know anything about you. Just that your name is Eleanora, you're seventeen, and we might be related."
