Hayden, enjoying his drink and pointedly ignoring everyone else at the bar. They bore him.
Taken by: Mere.
Solitude and Symbolism.
"I’m sure you’re the only one who thinks so Mr. Von Miller, I don’t fancy myself much of a poet." The musician tapped the side of his thigh as he inhaled lightly. "I’ve been…better…but I m-mean who hasn’t been these days am I r-right?"
"Well it so happens that not everyone that's good with words needs to be a poet, and you can call me Hayden" he said before taking another drag of his cigarette, feeling the smoke fill him he exhaled. "I know what you mean, not even concentrating on my job does the trick anymore, its only a reminder of the state of our town. How has you father been? It's been a while since I had the pleasure..."
"It might be." Izzy smiled lightly at the image of Ana and Melissafussing over the dresses. "Well, she’s very good at her job."
"Oh, thank you." Izzy blinked in surprise from the sudden advice. She hadn’t expected that from the older man. "Well, I was just looking to see if anyone would come to lunch with me at Louis’ and I thought of Ana first." At his offer, Izzy hesitated to think. "No, I don’t want you to join me if you’ve got other plans or feel like you have to. I’d rather not be a hinder. You don’t have to do anything with me if you don’t want to."
"The best if I might say" he smiled, "are you done with all your fittings princess?" he figured it was alright to ask, to keep the appearance that he cared.
Hayden smiled lightly at her surprised tone, but if he had to be honest the one thing he could not stand was smart people thinking they were not important. There was potential in Drizella, she just didn't know it yet. "I'm a lawyer my lady, people don't tend to do plans with me" he joked, "like I said, if you want my company I'll be happy to join you." He reached for the drawer on his right and fished out the tie he had discarded earlier when he felt like suffocating, holding it up so she can see it he said, "besides I'm always ready for Louis'."
"Well, I’ve been in Ever After for five years. You can do the math."
"To answer your question, yes, I was there. I was actually in London when the Germans were bombing." she read down the paper, tsking as she read, "Trying to expand the number of university students without having enough professors. Hm. British destroyers damaged by Albanian water mines? What on earth were they doing in Albania?"
"Mind if I ask what brought you here?" he tried to hide his curiosity, they never got tourist, but it was far more rare have someone willing to stay.
"I imagine it was quite the experience..." was all he could say to her. "I believe the words 'testing Albania reaction to innocent passage' were mentioned in an Australian journal, but who know right?" he commented before realizing she never asked for his opinion. "I'm Hayden Von Milner by the way..." he said with a smile.

"Maybe you should start learning."
"What’s wrong is that I can’t go hunting in the woods because of that stupid murderer. I need a smoke." He dug through his pockets for his pack, noticeably irritable.
"Oh I'm sure you didn't really mean to use that tone with me, did you Clyde?"
"I know... the amount of problems that little incident brought for all of us. Court is a nightmare, everyone wants justice. How is guard duty going? With the increase in patrols and all that fun stuff..."
"Really?
"I think you’re more aware of what’s going on when you’re on your own. That, and the pickpockets are less likely to target you."
"Oh, I’ll pass along those regards. Kyle is back to his knight-in-training duties. He pushes himself, but that’s just him."
"Pickpocketers?! Is that still a thing? I need to tell the guards to take more severe measures, I mean some people only have enough to get by, pickpockets is the last thing they need..."
"Thank you. I don't know Kyle personally, but I heard Captain Faith and Ser Diver talk in his defense, a kid with a brilliant future. I still don't understand what lead him to behave the way he did. I'm glad he's getting back to his duties."
"Really?
Melissa smirked at his choice of words, it almost made her laugh. “A few times.” The stylist admitted. “Those are the times I find most troublesome. My job is demanding after all and lacking a fresh idea or being in a slump is a hindering process. I’m sure you’d agree with my thoughts considering how your job involves people’s lives and justice of course.”
"Yes, you are right, Hayden." Melissa brushed her hair out of her face with a slight smile. "Though I usually spend my time at Swan Lake or a quieter part of Wonderland Park for inspiration. I love the serene atmosphere at Swan Lake and it usually does the trick of inspiring me again." She turned her attention to him at his words. "Yes, I’m sure they are." She laughed at being told she was good with people. She was definitely far from good with people. “Trust me Hayden, I’m not good with people at all. I myself have a short temper. It’s really all about control and intimidation and proper analyzation of the person you’re dealing with and the situation. Figure out those key concepts and I’m sure you’ll be as good with people as I am.”
Hayden could see the trace of a smile on Melissa, she knew him too well to know those words were just part of them being in public. "Of course, and it seems like everyone in town is dying to wear you..." he offered, "but now that I think a about it your situation is much harder. For me its just searching until I find that piece of evidence, it's always been there, just waiting to be found" unless we need to make it up, then that's a problem, the thought, "but for you, you need to create something, out of thin air... that is definitely harder to do..." he told her with a smile.
"Uhmm the lake..." he cocked his head to the side, "I don't think I'll ever think of looking for you at the lake... but I can see you there now, looking for inspiration." He gave her a small laugh, "well at least you look good when you lose your temper, people still like to be around you even if you are intimidating. And your clients chose you, mine sometimes don't get a choice, and don't even let me start on the times I have to the prosecutions..." he joked, he almost always was able to mask his emotions, but at the end of the day he was ready to explode, there was only so much smiling at insignificant people one could take before going crazy. But with Melissa it was different, he felt as if he could talk to her more freely, to let her see the side of him that was not charming and polite all the time. "I might need to take lessons from you then" he told her in a playful tone.
"This is delicious!"
"I haven't tried them yet Miss Chambers, but I'll take your word for it..."
"Or maybe I'll just have one..."
I have to say, epic poetry doesn’t really appeal to me.
Oh Mr. Worth don't say that to me. I'd expect anyone to let me down. But you? You are such a reasonable guy...
Well anyways, do you think you can do the engraving? Or should I take it to the Bradshaws?

"I- thank you, sir."
"Oh, Mr. Von Milner. Where are my manners?"
"Don't worry about manners right now. Are you hurt?"
"That was quite the fall..."
Oh, I-- I'm sorry
Jane briefly pursed her lips. Although pausing like this meant she was spending more time with him, she couldn’t deny that she needed the rest. They’d been strolling leisurely up to this point, but she had also been talking, and quite a bit if she thought about it. Perhaps lying was better than talking to describe what she’d been doing. However, Jane had good reason to lie. This Hayden Von Milner couldn’t possibly have any reason to lie to her. To her, it seemed like he was trying to get, and stay, on her good side. Now that’s utterly ridiculous, Jane, she thought to herself.
"I suppose we all tell our own little fibs to avoid disagreements and strife, don’t we?" she asked, giving him a piercing look. She was not yet a very good liar — he had to know that nothing she had said thus far in their conversation was truthful. If he didn’t… then perhaps Jane was getting better at this. Regardless, there was no reason for him to know anything about her personal life or problems and she would do what she could to keep him out.
"I don’t know who would be spreading such false rumours as to say that I’m talented, but yes, I have been practising. I never really stop, to be honest. I don’t have much to do, you see."
"Most definitely" Hayden agreed with a smile, "specially while in court, if we can't stop ourselves from getting into troubles, well the consequences..." he let the rest of the sentence hang in the air, they both, not they all knew what might happen if they were to get in trouble. The queen was not known for sparing anyone, no matter their social standing. In the end they all were caught in the same prison, smiling, being nice, all in order to say alive. And this girl was good, she will lead you to believe that she is all those things she alone accused herself of being, so you think she is not a threat, but its all part of her strategy, Hayden couldn't stop himself from thinking. We all have to survive, one way or another, he thought.
But was there something else to Jane's motives other than surviving court? She was smart, and adaptable, Hayden could see that clearly, was something else in play? No he thought firmly, she doesn't look like the kind to want power or a crown. Jane could be counted as one of the innocent members of the court, the ones dragged into this, like the Chamber sisters and princess Drizella. The ones that lie because they have to, not because they want to.
"Oh please my lady, I have yet to see your work, but I'm sure they weren't rumors" he said with a smile as they resumed their walk, "well art is definitely something that will kept you busy. What else do you enjoy doing?" Hayden asked trying to move the conversation away from topics they no longer wished to discuss.
"Really?
"Yeah. The streets have gotten really crowded lately. I guess no one likes walking alone anymore."
"Ke—Mr. Edgar is well. Business is continuing as usual and on schedule." and he hasn’t taken any time to actually spend quality time with Kyle.
"I'd think it'll be the other way around, people preferring to stay in. But we all need to carry on with our lives. Traveling in groups seems like the right option. Guess that doesn't apply for you and me uh?"
"I'm glad to hear that, give him my regards please. And how's you umm brother doing...?"
"Excuse me, sir,"
"You’re blocking my light."
"I- uhh what? ... "
"I'm sorry miss, I didn't realize anyone was sitting there."

"MY OFFICE IS NOT A PLAYGROUND!"
"Whoa... easy there it's just me..."
"Whatever happened to make you so angry?"
Excuse me,

Let me see that...
Yeah its mine, when did I drop this? Thank you for returning it.
