It is not often that Lawrence steps into the ring, as he usually chose to patch people up afterwards, but that's not to say that it is unheard of for him to step into the ring. He's fully trained, and his Pokemon are definitely strong enough to stand their own ground.
However, the KAW was holding a tag team tournament and they needed Lawrence to participate to fill up the bracket, so he's walking out to the ring. As is fashionable, he is dressed to match his Pokemon tag team partner, more or less. He leaves his upper body uncovered, revealing a well-defined torso that would seem out of place for a federation's medic, but that is not being caught or oogled as much as it might otherwise be because his hair, which is naturally long and blond, has been styled with Arceus only knows how much gel into two wings of hair going down and back at the same angle as his Blaziken's hair. He also wears long tights that are bright red to the knee and in a fiery orange from the hem up toward the knee and matching orange boots.
Lawrence's first round opponents are a man known only as Jiraiya. He dressed a lot like his tag team partner, a Greninja, as well, though he chose a different color scheme with his outfit. He wore a full body suit, but it was white instead of blue, and his scarf was red instead of pink. He also wears a full mask with three fins, one along the top and two along the sides, to emulate Greninja. This, too, is red. The two run down to the ring, showing off their impressive speed before leaping up and clearing the top rope to land in the middle of the ring gracefully, to a round of applause from the crowd. Lawrence and Blaziken are both visibly impressed, but remain wary.
That speed is going to be their worst enemy.
"The following contest is a first round match in the tournament to determine the number one contenders for the KAW Tag Team Champions, Seismic Toss! The contest is scheduled for one fall! First, on my left, from Shalour City, at a combined weight of 355 pounds, the team of Lawrence and Blaziken known as Feel the Blackburn!"
The crowd cheers for Lawrence and Blaziken.
"Their opponents, on my right, hailing from Azure Bay, at a combined weight of 265 pounds, the team of Jiraiya and Greninja, the Great Blue Sea!"
The crowd cheers for Jiraiya and Greninja for the most part, but there are a few jeers as well, and one fan mutters How pretentious, claiming to live in Azure Bay...
Standing together in the ring, each human next to their Pokemon partner, some facts become immediately evident.
1) Lawrence and Blaziken are significantly larger. Lawrence is only larger than Jiraiya by about six inches, but Blaziken has a 16-inch height advantage on Greninja. This size difference goes right to the bones, as Lawrence is also more thickly muscled than Jiraiya, a fact that is evident even through the latter's full body suit, as the figure he cuts is smaller.
2) The two teams cut entirely different figures. The suit reveals that Jiraiya must have a swimmer's lithe figure, which will serve him well as he emulates his tag team partner in outspeeding his human adversary.
3) For a first round match, this one is going to be good.
After a bit of conferring, it is decided that the humans will start first. Lawrence stretches in his corner, his hair-gel Blaziken hair already starting to fall out into his usual mane of hair, and Jiraiya stands ready opposite him.
The ring bell sounds and Jiraiya is off to the races, quite literally running circles around Lawrence. Lawrence gets a bit dizzy, and that's when Jiraiya strikes, leaping up while still running and twisting around to kick Lawrence in the back of the head with a big Enzuigiri that sends Lawrence flying forward onto his face. Jiraiya wastes no time and rushes over, kicking him in the ribs as he starts to get up, earning some boos from the crowd. This leaves Lawrence on his back, clutching his ribs as Jiraiya leaps up to the top turnbuckle in one of the corners. After a bit of posing, he leaps high up into the air, corkscrewing in midair, but he hits the canvas and misses Lawrence, who rolled out of the way. He gets up slowly, holding his stomach with one hand and the back of his head with the other, but he shakes his head when the referee asks him if he wants to give up. He lifts up Jiraiya and throws him over his head. Jiraiya arches his back in pain as Lawrence takes a moment to recover. After a moment, he rolls over toward his corner and tags in Blaziken.
By KAW rules, this means Jiraiya has to leave the ring as well, and Blaziken and Greninja are now going to fight. Lawrence rolls under the bottom rope by his own power while the referee guides Jiraiya there, leaving room for Blaziken and Greninja. This opening starts a lot like the humans, as Greninja proves how much faster than Blaziken it is. Blaziken goes for a kick, but Greninja got by it and starts nailing Blaziken with quick jabs in its stomach. Then, when Blaziken tries to punch it with one of its spindly, but deceptively strong arms, Greninja ducks that as well. Greninja grabs the arm and throws Blaziken into the ropes. Blaziken bounces off of the ropes and comes sailing at Greninja who leaps at Blaziken. Blaziken manages to stop, but Greninja blasts Blaziken out of the ring with one of its "proper" attacks, Feint Attack. The crowd cheers the action as the referee moves to the side of the ring where Blaziken fell as he starts a countout.
Blaziken is having a hard time getting up.
Lawrence, who is still favoring his head, drops off the apron and goes over to where Blaziken lies.
The crowd starts building to a crescendo as Jiraiya climbs a turnbuckle.
Jiraiya leaps off in a great corkscrew body attack and hits both Blaziken and Lawrence! The crowd cheers the high-flying action, then cheers even louder as Greninja leaps over the top rope and flies into all three! The quartet lie in a heap on the ground as the official begins a double countout.
Everyone is just trying to untangle themselves at this point.
Being the legal participants, Greninja and Blaziken are trying to get up to get into the ring. Lawrence and Jiraiya are still down.
Greninja has just about reached the ring apron, but Blaziken is still lingering behind.
Greninja is in the ring, and now it's a race for Blaziken to get in the ring before he and Lawrence are counted out.
Blaziken is at the apron, but still slumped against it.
Blaziken lets out its cry as it pulls itself into the ring. The referee stops the count as the crowd cheers for Blaziken's resolve. Greninja immediately starts in on Blaziken with kicks, some faster than the eye can see, but Blaziken manages to get a grazing kick to Greninja's midsection to force it back. Greninja goes to finish off Blaziken, but Blaziken ducks under the intended attack and rolls out to center ring before leaping up onto the top turnbuckle in a neutral corner, then leaps off and goes right for Greninja's face with a High Jump Kick!
Unfortunately he misses and crashes and burns. Greninja then mirrors the action, leaping up to the top rope and flying into the air, sailing through the air and aiming to land on Blaziken. Lawrence cried out to Blaziken to dodge, and it rolls toward Lawrence. Greninja stills grazes it with its Acrobatics attack, but it's close enough to Lawrence for him to tag in, making himself and Jiraiya legal. He gently rolls the unmoving Blaziken out of the ring, but while his back is turned, Jiraiya nails him with a dropkick to the back, planting Lawrence in the corner. Jiraiya grabs Lawrence's head and then runs up the turnbuckles. He backflips over Lawrence, still holding his head, planting him on the back of his head! The crowd cheers, despite Jiraiya's prior transgressions, as Jiraiya grabs Lawrence's leg to pin him!
The crowd erupts as Lawrence's shoulder rises from the canvas! Despite all the abuse he's taken, he's not ready to give in yet. This visibly upsets Jiraiya, for despite the fact that we can't see his face through his mask, his body language tells a story of anger and frustration. He kicks at Lawrence, trying to make him get up, and when Lawrence does start getting up, holding his head and neck, he stalks the larger man, looking for an even bigger move. However, when he leaps at Lawrence, Lawrence catches him horizontally. Acting quickly, Lawrence holds him tight and spins around in a circle, getting dizzier and dizzier all the while. When he's got a lot of momentum going, he lets go of Jiraiya's legs, letting them swing naturally down, and as they do, he swings around, falling back and planting Jiraiya's face and head in the canvas! Sluggishly, Lawrence rolls over and lays on Jiraiya's chest.
3! The bell sounds again!
"Here are your winners...Feel the Blackburn!"
Blaziken struggles to stand up, but finds the strength to do so as the referee calls him over to raise his and Lawrence's hands in victory. Lawrence looks over to his opponents, also banged up from the match.
Lawrence's voice is pained, but he makes himself heard over the crowd so Gallade knows to Teleport to him in a flash of light.
"Gallade, use Heal Pulse on us. Blaziken, use Mimic, then do them."
They do as bid; Gallade sends a wave of healing energy at Blaziken and Lawrence, healing the worst of their injuries. Lawrence is still a bit sore in the head, but he looks much better, as does Blaziken, who on cue, sends the same energy into Jiraiya and Greninja. It's harder to see, but they begin moving more easily. They get up and look at Lawrence; Jiraiya's face is masked, but Greninja's isn't, communicating the confusion for both of them. Lawrence just smiles at them though, and after a moment, Greninja smiles as well, and Jiraiya bows slightly to him. The crowd cheers even louder at the show of sportsmanship, then some more as they make a display of their exit, leaping out of the ring to the floor and running to the back. The crowd keeps it going for Lawrence and his Pokemon as they have their hands raised again by the referee.
