a girl with a short afro buys a small apartment with her boyfriend, she worked at a hair salon, keeping up with the towns gossip, and keeping her friend's boyfriends in line, whilst her own boyfriend worked in an office. the two still faced racism, but it seemed to be lessening, and besides, she would put anyone in their place who dared insult either of them.

an ex-cheerleader is already married, and he is already getting fat- the husband that is, the post wedding fall off seemed to be happening a lot more quickly than how she used to joke about it with her friends. he works a lot, so she doesn't have to see him all the time, which to some extent is great. but she shouldn't complain, right? it's the american dream, after all. a boy with black hair and beady blue eyes moves into tennessee, it seems fun here, no one knows the bad reputation of the 'munson' name, and his girlfriend came with him, she's enjoying the hippie movement, she tries to forget what she left in her hometown, as he becomes more erratic.
