teen wheelson being secretly obsessed with eachother and knowing everything about the other. sure they’re close with the other members in the drama club (ted with charles, alan with joyce) but the connection they have with eachother is different. it’s crazy and reckless but it feels so safe. the relationship they have is something they can’t replicate with the others and it’s something they don’t want to lose.

1960 rolls around and they’ve graduated, everyones trying to get out of hawkins and go to a college out of town. alan would be one of those, he found a good drama school that he was so excited to go to; but it meant leaving everything he was so used to knowing, his family he could forget about but his friends, ted wheeler? that he didn’t want to forget about or have to rebuild in the next city over.

he fell in love with elizabeth then, they’d gone to school together and they’d flirted in the halls but it was never something permanent until then. and god did he love her. alans relationship with elizabeth was something he favoured more than the drugs, he adored her with every breath he had. if soulmates were a thing, elizabeth was his.

but even then there was a tiny voice in the back of his head that compelled him to look for someone else in every person he saw. so when he moved back to hawkins, years after elizabeths death, fully sober and ready to rekindle his relationship with his son, who he only found out was also dead when he ran into wayne and broke down. alan was lost to say the least. he’d lost everyone close to him.

it was when alan visited eddies grave did he find that person he was looking for. ted wheeler. the only boy who ever truly got him. it was a piece that clicked. ted was divorced, his relationship with karen was failing and she needed a fresh start somewhere else. ted couldn’t blame her, he’d been a shitty husband.
