Having had the end of childhood coincide with the invention of the smartphone makes it hard to differentiate the radiant presence of childhood from life before screens… or at least compounds the grief. do children who grew up with a smartphone in hand mourn childhood in the same way? do adults who lived out their youth present in the physical world miss the freedom of simplicity?

Today in the surgery waiting room there was this ATROCIOUS EVIL HGTV SHOW on called something like Ugliest Homes in America where the host sees ‘ugly’ homes and the ugliest house wins a makeover and the homes were beautiful and unique and artistic and vintage and I was SEETHING at the ratings. Literally like a bull seeing red watching this woman rate beautiful eccentric eclectic homes as ‘ugly’ and ‘headache inducing’. Not walk to wall grey ugly, like, cool mid century and Victorian homes with actual color and life. It was like a show invented specifically to piss me off.
