There is something about binging absolute beginner playlist of Comprehensible input for a language you didn't know at all. Rewiring your brain live
The lie that Russian and Ukrainian are mutually intelligible languages, or even dialects of the same language, only works if you don't know both. This lie works on most non-Ukrainian-speaking foreigners and Russians, because Ukrainians usually know Russian, but Russians don't know Ukrainian. I never met a person who believes this if they know Ukrainian. You'd have to be ignorant of Ukrainian to believe that it is similar or identical to Russian.
A great example of this is how Russian invaders in Ukraine, listening to Ukrainians speaking on the radio thought they were listening to Poles speaking Polish, and became convinced NATO troops were in Ukraine helping Ukrainians, because they were convinced that Ukrainians just speak Russian with an accent. They know Polish is different from Russian, and they did not expect Ukrainian to be different from Russian, so they came to the conclusion that the language they heard must be some other Slavic language, one more different from Russian, like Polish.
If you want to learn a language, but don't really care about which language, may I advise you to choose a language from your native one's family?
As grammars of the two bear a lot of similarities, and as a good chunk of vocabulary is transparent, you're going to reach a good comprehension fast. You will be able to understand native stuff that interests you in a month at most.
It is very rewarding and helps a lot with motivation.
I understand somehow like 50% of GioPizzi videos. The guy talks so fast, the others youtubers seem slown down afterwards.
Once I'm at 100% it's over for you all.

Yesterday somehow I got a bunch of posts in spanish on my discover bluesky page and the happiness I felt being able to understand 90% of it. Felt like a superpower.
Me looking at two languages of the same family, each with content I desperately want to understand
(I'm going to smash them into my own creole)
Kind of crazy how, personally, my motivation lasts longer when it's rooted in pettiness than when it's rooted in love.
Oh, I should learn that language because my crush speaks it? I'll reach Advanced Beginner and then drop it.
Learning that language would be giving the middle finger to that person I personally hate? Three month of daily consistency, Intermediate level reached and still going strong.

Very cool!
Hot Language Immersion Tip
I find it super hard to find the content to consume but one thing that works quite well on youtube:
searching "interview with" in the language you're learning (as in: "Interview mit" (for german), "interview met" (for dutch), "interview avec" (for french), ...
Pros:
You learn about the coolest/craziest/weirdest people
You get to know who's trendy in the country right now (like singers, politicians, etc) as well as what topic
The videos are typically posted by target-language channels (I for example found out about "vice nederlands" through an interview with the dutch singer Froukje)
Typically, interviews are done with quite interesting topics/people AND they're 10-20min long (thus not overbearing)
Many have subtitles!
Hope this helps someone!

Addition to Notion German Resource Pool:
Just added info about the CERF levels with resources from the Goethe Institut (who do the exam)

Doch - one of the best German words
"Ich habe deine Mutter nicht getötet" - Doch!
"Ich habe nicht gelogen" - Doch!
"Du wolltest doch nicht mitkommen" - Doch!
Doch has many meanings, among the best is used above. Duden calls this usage:
"als gegensätzliche Antwort auf eine negativ formulierte Aussage oder Frage in Konkurrenz zu „ja“ bei einer positiv formulierten Frage und in Opposition zu „nein“"
(as contrary answer to a negative statement or question..."
So what does "Doch" mean here?
You say doch when someone makes a negated claim (I didn't kill your mother; i didn't lie; you didn't want to come with) and you want to say that in fact they DID/you DID
-> it's negating a negated statement/question
Doch can also be used in different ways (though not as fun):
"Es wird doch nichts passiert sein?" -> strengthens the question, similar to "surely...?"
"Das ist doch nur dumm!" -> fortifies unhappiness or frustration in a Statement/question, similar to "straight up, simply..."
"Ihr kommt doch heute Abend?" -> fortifies hope in a statement/question, like "you ARE coming, RIGHT?"
(you tell the two apart by overall mood of the person speaking)
"Wie ging der Text doch gleich?" -> implies the person knows the thing they ask about but can't recall at the moment
"Sie kommt doch nicht mit" -> confirms something that had been a theory up until then, similar to "after all"
Can you understand native speakers?
Many languages available. One of the hardest audio practice sites I have found. Enjoy!
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Dutch, Mandarin, Shanghainese, Danish, Hebrew, Latin, Esperanto
THIS IS LEGIT THE BEST SHIT EVER OMG
Plue, ĝi havas subtitolojn. Por mi, kiu ofte miskomprenas kion oni parolas esperante, estis tre utilaj.

I went to a French restaurant with my family and good Lord that was delicious !
First picture : Italian charcuterie with lettuce, smoked salmon, tomatoes, avocado, boiled eggs, red onions and a dressing
Second picture : snails with green butter a traditional french dish
Third and fourth pictures: French fries with a high quality beef steak with it's challot's sauce. Sweet and salty, the meat was so juicy and tender. That was delicious !
Dude eating snails is so peculiar, I'm French and could never manage to take the leap like a lot of French people in fact. Hats off to you for your open-mindness and boldness holy freak XD
"partez la fille" doesn't work. "laissez", "abandonnez" and "oubliez" do. I think "abandonnez works the best". We also usually say "la/une" PS5 :)
genuine question. do you guys say peh ess cinq
Pé èss cinq yes we actually do XD
