“I wanted to ask you something. What exactly are we?“

“Why do I have a feeling my night’s not getting any better?“

“Technically, I suppose, but that’s not the answer I’m looking for.“

“There’s no good way to ask this, I’m just going to put it out there…”

“I wanted to take them alive. They wanted to go out like Butch and Sundance.“

“I don’t want to be any story. I just want to go back to when nobody knew who I was.“

“If we’re going to survive, we’re going to have to do a few things that can’t be undone.”

Thomas walked forward until he was standing right in front of Kai. He wasn’t doing this for Alec, he was doing this for Magnus because he cared about him. He would deny that he cared about Kai until he was blue in the face. “I don’t care, but I care about those who care about you…so you’re going to listen to me.” The other warlock’s mark didn’t bother him, it was watching the heart break around him. 

He poked Kai’s chest with one of his fingers. “Now you either come back with me to Magnus’ apartment, or I knock you out…or worse. It’s up to you, sweetheart. But I won’t let you cause anyone else pain.” Not until he had his humanity back.

Thomas shut the door with the flick of his hand and walked closer to Kai, he wasn’t going to let him get away with this. He cared about him too much. “I can’t quite lecture anyone on their humanity after all the things that I’ve done. I’m here to tell you that you’re whining when you have no right and I’m tired of cleaning up your messes.”

Kai smirked as he seen the little displace of magic, blinking a bit, letting his glamor drop on his face so his marks where on displace. He didn’t feel the need to cover up anything around a fellow warlock. “I never asked you to. Go away, Thomas.” He  could feel the magic sparking at his fingertips but he didn’t make a move to use it on the male. Ever since he let the darkness take hold of his soul he has had more power then he knew what to do with, leading to random outbursts of magic that innocent people have been a victim of. Not that he cared. Besides, he figured the  best way to draw out Valentine was to kill his Circle members.  Asking how Alexander was doing was on the tip of his tongue  but he refused to ask, knowing if he did so he would give away his one weakness in this state. No matter how hard he tried he couldn’t stop caring about the older shadowhunter, even if it was clear he wanted nothing to do with him. 

“Yeah…but demon blood doesn’t make you bad. I know…I know that I thought that once. But I met people who changed that, you and Magnus…even Clary.” He sighed, he wasn’t good at this. Alec didn’t know how to comfort people without getting overwhelmed himself.

“You could have been learning how to control it this whole time, how is that helping? And Jace? He didn’t deserve to go through that either. “You don’t have to worry about that, okay? I promise. I won’t leave you alone in this.” He smiled before leaning forward and pressed his lips to Kai’s forehead. He didn’t want to push his boundaries, it was up to Kai now.

“If you say so.” It had only brought him pain in the past, but right now that didn’t matter. It was about being here with Kai and making sure that nothing else happened to him.  When Kai shuffled closer he took a deep breath and closer the difference. “I just want you to be safe.”

“Yeah, I might be a little over-protective.” Michael gave Kai a sheepish grin and shuffled closer, laying his hand over the wound and concentrated on healing him. He wasn’t going anywhere, not yet. “I know…and you’re stronger. But sitting back and doing nothing is never something I’ve been comfortable with.” He squeezed Kai’s hand with his free one and settled back again.

Alec had his friendship with Magnus to thank for this, Izzy for being who she was…and Jace? He needed to thank them all for the fact that he didn’t wind up like his parents. He didn’t want to hate Kai, he didn’t, there was nothing wrong with him, despite stubborn he might have been.

“Your mother is an idiot, she should be supporting you instead of treating you like a freak.” Alec might have been a little bitter towards his own mother, even if she didn’t come and say it out right, she wasn’t happy with him being gay. He bit down on his lower lip before nudging Kai’s own ones with his thumb. Alec wasn’t thinking, he was heart broken by the idea of Kai being sad. “Jace, Izzy, Magnus…we’ve all got your back. And even if I don’t get along with Clary that much, I know she has your back, too.” Alec didn’t hate Clary, he was just being stubborn because he thought she knew him too well, too quickly.
