one may identify with this due to having a majority surgically constructed vagina or penis from igm, variations that have been surgically altered to attempt perisex ideals, mixed result or incomplete igm, complications from early age igm which have caused atypical genitalia later in life, forced hormone treatment which has altered or changed genitalia, or simply a way to acknowledge one’s genitalia has been altered or created in some way by igm and similar affects
one may use atelo-genitalia as an umbrella term for any and all genitalia or similar parts which fall under the definition, and use specific terms underneath this (ie. atelo-vagina or atelo-penis) to describe their genitalia in whichever way one prefers, including ambiguous genitalia. however these more specific terms are intended to be used for genitalia which was altered or created to appear more like the perisex ideal of the genitalia type
while intended to be used for genitalia, atelo-x can be applied to other forms of coercive and/or unconsentual alterations due to igm or similar affects. such as altered breasts, cosmetic surgery, forced hormonal changes, etc
atelo-genitalia / atelo-x
dark green stripe - ambiguous and/or mixed genitalia of all kinds
light green stripe - self identified genitalia
yellow stripe - intersex identity
light orange stripe - self acceptance and recovery
orange stripe - solidarity and resistance
atelo-vagina
dark pink stripe - coercively altered or created vaginal genitalia
pink stripe - self identified vaginal genitalia
atelo-clitoris
fuchsia stripe - coercively altered or created clitoral genitalia
the center of each flag features a flower, with the upper half being an orchid, representing being uniquely intersex, the lower half is a clover, representing change from igm and similar effects. the flower being two separate flowers represents not only how part of one is taken and changed, but often how igm is not reflective of one’s self and identity. the circle extending from the stem mirrors the intersex flag, but is incomplete at the end as a show of protest against igm while still showing we are complete people even after igm
the stripes on each flag are intended to be able to combine with the others, so that one is able to construct a flag that feels representative of their own genitalia
this term is available for other igm victims to make subtypes, more specific terms, or generally as a prefix (atelo-x) to describe one’s self how one sees fit. transparent template available below
