When Bear wakes up and Nikki's standing in the dark corner of his room it's terrifying and almost looks unreal, like sleep paralysis, but what if it's his conscience, something like guilt emerging just slightly at this moment ? If not guilt, something like a "reality check" ?He knows something's wrong, he knows Nikki is not acting like herself and he's not stupid enough to ignore it. He still decides to have sex with her, raping her. Nikki then appears in the dark, looking almost human but not quite right. (They did such a good job with the uncanny valley makeup i was terrified and in awe) He has dehumanized her, and she appears terrifying to him because she reflects what he did to her, what he chose for her, to fill his needs and desires and greed. She reflects the monster he is, and it's horrifying but he still gets a good night's sleep. That's what scares me beyond everything, he has proof over and over again that he destroyed her, that he did wrong, that Nikki isn't happy, and still decides to be greedy and selfish. Sure Nikki is terrifying but he's worse. I hate him.
(i've had trouble expressing my thoughts about this movie so i'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense, there's so much to say about it)
