I cannot BELIEVE the lack of Dracula sequels with monster hunter Mina and co. Imagine having "we killed Dracula" as your hunter resume.

Everyone who analyzes Dracula will not stop talking about stakes being phallic and thus staking Lucy is Sexual Assault Actually blah blah blah as if folklore and 100 years of vampire literary fiction before Dracula was not almost all ending with staking the vampire at the end (w/ exceptions like holy water or lightning from God). Enough about stakes it is time to talk about the kukri and the other knives. The kukri is not a stabbing weapon. Quincey Morris has a Bowie, meant for hunting, and serves as substitute for a stake. Furthermore, blood is essential in the kukri legend. Not only is there a myth that you need to feed it with blood before sheathing it again, but it was used for blood sacrifice. The notch at the bottom is specifically to redirect the blood from the handle. For Jonathan especially, all that matters. Dracula violated Mina through mouth, blood, throat, and forced exchange. Jonathan’s kukri answering at Dracula’s throat feels less like “Jonathan penetrates Dracula” and more like Jonathan cuts Dracula’s claim away. It is a marital, protective, almost surgical vengeance. Its symbolism is less about penetration and more about severance: Jonathan does not enter Dracula’s body so much as cut off his power over Mina.

The modern media wants you to believe that Mina Harker was in love with Dracula and not Jonathan
