As a young Veranstalterin that came to Munich with the explicit idea of being part of said subculture (theres very few of us), I can say the following :

1- 2 years and over 50 concerts and a couple festivals organized later, I don’t think it’s possible for anybody to live from concert organization by themselves. Either you need State support, or you need a rich boyfriend/girlfriend to pay for your “Luxus hobby”.

2- there’s not a single venue in this city that will support a long term local experimental music showcase 100%. It will always be a question of “can we get city money from it” or “you need to cover your own costs” - not because the venue managers are assholes that don’t believe in the music, but because there is no stable audience for experimental music in Munich.

3- once again for the people in the back, there is no stable audience for experimental music in Munich and organizing experimental concerts is a financial risk that nobody can afford to assume

4- 99% of Munich’s representations of subculture (the Boat, the Containers, the Hotel happening, the Beach and the Tents) are actually a capitalist dream that screams “Disneyland” more than “artistic freedom”. Your bottled Weinschorle is not feeding my creativity.

5- Munich finally pushed me beyond all my limits and I am too tired to care anymore. To hell with this scene, or absence thereof, I will do like many before me, and we will organize some public representations of subculture when we feel like it, at our own financial risk, for an audience that doesn’t grow, and keep to themselves through bonds of friendship rather than lifestyle.

Man wuerde ja meinen man haette in Zeiten von welt-weitem Rechtsruck und Fremdenhass besseres zu tun als die Stadt Muenchen zu verklagen. Aber hey, entspannt euch mal! Hier eine Luxusproblematik aus der irrealen Welt der Nebensaetze und Komplexitaeten:

Die Schuldfrage

Wir beschaeftigen uns mit der Situation das Muenchen jede Form von Credibility in kulureller, genauer gesagt alternativ-kultureller Hinsicht in dem ohnehin fragwuerdigen Bundesdeutschen Staedtediskurs verloren hat bzw. abgesprochen wird.

Ist ja gar nicht schlimm, es geht mal nicht um Lamento Boy. Einfach mal so. Aus Hamburg und Berlin darf man prekaer sozialisiert hervorgehen, seine Stimme hervorheben und in Form von medialen Erguessen zu irgendeinem Diskurs beitragen.

Aus Muenchen schubst man entweder gefuehlt als Hipster Lila Kuehe um oder rast mit seinem BMW in faschistische CSU Wahnvorstellungen vom Untergang des Abendlandes - weil wir brauchen ja keine AfD, wir sind ja immer schon so.

Das Muenchen 2M Leute hat, SPD-regiert ist, eine grosse gemaessigte bis radikalisierte Linke Intelligenzia besitzt die letztlich entweder in die innere Emmigration geht oder als Kulturauswanderer in anderen deutschsprachigen Staedten ihre Herkunft verheimlichen muss - “Meine Herkunft suche ich mir selber aus” © Dietrichsen - wird ignoriert.

Nun doch Lamento Boy

Aber mal nicht den anderen in Deutschland gegenueber - NEIN! Nicht gerade den jungen Leuten die niemals nach Muenchen zum Feiern gehen wuerden und von daher schon gar nicht sich die Muehe machen mal ein bischen daneben zu schauen obwohl sie sich selbst auch aeusserst differenziert betrachten sondern lieber einfach irgendwelche Klischees uebernehmen - NEIN!

Wir nehmen die Klischees und klagen die Urheber dessen an! Wir verklagen uns Selbst! Fuer unser schlechtes Image! Und das geht so:

Wir machen jetzt einfach mal einen auf neo-liberal und reden ueber Standortmarketing und Verdraengung (nachdem ja jetzt in Zeiten von AfD & Brexit neo-lieberal ploetzlich gar nicht mehr so schlimm scheint)

Es gibt ja sowas wie Kartellrecht and Anti-Monopolisierung, wenn man einen entgangenen Gewinn darstellen kann weil man zu unrecht verdraengt wurde, aus dem Markt, durch andere, die sich breit machen und alles kontrollieren wollen…

Die Klage  

Wir klagen die gesamte Muenchner Gesellschaft an, also ALLE, stellvertreten durch die Stadt Muenchen, wegen der Imageverzerrung durch ein paar wenige Entitaeten wie FC Bayern, BMW & Oktoberfest, deren ueberproportial hohe Strahlkraft - propagierend das Bild der shiny bright people, eindimensional, apolitisch, undifferenziert und maximal selbst-optimierend - uns die Grundlage zur Entfaltung entzieht.

Weil dieses Bild so stark propagiert wird, wird uns ALLES ANDERE nicht mehr geglaubt, und das bedeutet ein Verlust in der persoenlichen Entfaltung aller Andersdenkenden, und das ist anti-demokratisch und auch wettbewerbsverzerrend, und fuer diesen Schaden sind die Foerderer dieses Bildes verantwortlich zu machen.

As a International Blogger For The Munich Scene (ha), here is what it is for me. The Munich Subculture is a constellation of families, namely Alien Transistor, Schamoni Musik, gutfeeling records, Raketenbasis Haberlandstrasse, TAM TAM, Echokammer, München ist DRECK, Disko B - Chicks On Speed Records but also have meetup points at  Favorit Bar, Unter Deck, TAM TAM Tanzlokal, Bürgerhaus Glockenbachwerkstatt, Milla - Live Club, etc. It’s a network of musicians, DJs, artists from all over that struggle everyday to get amazing sounds out there. Every few weeks or so, a new LP or Single comes out, and yet, nearly nothing breaks into the mainstream.

Why? Because it is not Pop Culture. It’s not music that is made to be consumed. It’s necessary music, from krautglitch to lofi folk, dark ambient electronics to postpunk to noise to dub. The common ground is : breathe in the oppression of the city’s Disney-style beauty and monoculture, and slam it on synthesizers, guitar chords and effect machines.

Es ist natürlich totaler Quatsch, denn es wird auf keinen Fall funktionieren. Aber den Gedanken, dass man die Stadt München wegen Rufschädigung verklagt, finde ich eigentlich einen ziemlich coolen Move. Denn wie man sieht hat es ja eine riesige Diskussion ausgelöst und auch mein Facebook-Statement zu der ganzen Geschichte war eigentlich mehr aus dem Ansatz heraus entstanden, dass ich wollte, dass diese Diskussion befeuert wird. Ich finde, das ist eine wichtige und eine interessante Diskussion, die sehr vielschichtig ist und auf vielen Ebenen geführt werden sollte. Und wenn die Leute aufgehört haben über die mögliche Klage zu lachen, werden sie vielleicht bemerken, dass das alles auch eine Anspielung auf das ist, was auf großer Ebene gerade politisch passiert: TTIP und so. Und dann, finde ich, kriegt das nochmal eine ganz andere Perspektive und ist eine sehr künstlerische Aktion.”

to all who were there last friday at the TAM TAM in Munich. We really had a great time! Never seen so many people smiling and dancing simultaneously on our music and meeting all the people we only knew via Internet. 

Special thanks to Sebastian for letting us have a place to crash and fixing stuff for us. Thanks to Matthias of TAMTAM, wich is a great place with a free spirit Atmosphere. And ofcourse everyone els we met and had laughs with. Pictures / recording / films etc. will be uploaded upcoming days. 

Just before we hit the autobahn to Berlin last saturday we had a nice meeting and coffee with the Raketenbasis Haberlandstrasse big boss himself, Sascha. It was great to finally meet, and share some knowledge about schlager. 

At 01:30 we arrived in Berlin were we had a gig at the NOISEberg DATfestival at 03:00. We did a improv of some electronic Noise. But sadly the recording didnt worked out well. Now we are all well rest and working on our set for Oppositaer the 15th also in Berlin. Which is gonna be cool too.

Anyway, i’m sure we see each other more often in the future. 

I cannot even begin to tell you how crazy it was to deal with a “the show must go on” in the mist of a terrorist attack, how crazy it was to try to find band members in the wild, to learn that some of them were stuck in a panic riot in the city center and such. Musicians looking at you in the eye, asking you “So what’s the plan?” - never thinking about giving up and going home. We were stuck in a bubble in time and space and decided to make it about sharing sounds. And in the end, in the overpowering heat of the place, this small punctual community danced all the wrongs in the world away.

This was a very humbling experience for the theatre girl in me - it reminds you than however well-organized you are, how prepared you are for a gig, the only thing that matters down the line is how you walk through fire when you need to. Never give up, always look forward, take every minute as they come and do your job.

For all those that came by, I thank you with all my heart for your calm, your open-mindedness and your desire to make the best out of everything. That was some “Munich Flow” in action, there, big time. We all saw a little more of each of us last night, didn’t we?

For all those who couldn’t come by, let it be known that a part of you was there. We lived through this crazy night with all of you in our mind at all time. All this beauty is also yours too. Because this is what family is for, right?

Merci for everything, each of you make life so beautiful and worthwhile. But yeah, what a fucking day that was.
